Maplin also sell a 150W Inverter for £14.99 (still on offer, usually £29.99 - deal may be ending today!)

I've certainly not seen them as low as this before.

Sainsburys are selling one desgned to fit in drinks holder (also 150w output) for £7.50 but available only in Colton Leeds store apparently - other HUKD members are reporting they are £15 in their local stores (reduced from £30)

I wish I needed some inverted electricity, because this is a bargain.

However, I can only use the standard kind of electricity in our house. Shame

Just try it. Man didn't get to this stage of evolution by umming and ahhing.

Plug it in. If it explodes and melts your steering wheel onto your lap and solders your handbrake to your face, then you have failed. But no one can say you didn't try

Yes as long as it's power consumption is below 150 watts which it probably will be.

Yup, Wii will work as its power consumption is about 20W or so. I wouldn't try a PS3 or xbox360 though ...

If there is a fault in your car this will find out - don't be surprised when a fuse blows somewhere and you get pulled for no brake lights or your indicators don't work or something more serious goes.
#16
just bought one of these few weeks ago of ebay for £14.99
they work, but I had my laptop with me in the car, it was charing...

but it didnt want to charge it with the laptop switched on, just kept cutting out on and off....

:?

Wrong thread?

This item is nothing to do with car diagnostics - it won't help you diagnose any faults with your car.

This power inverter produces 240V AC output (modified wave form) from the 12V dc input as obtainable from a car cigarette lighter socket.

If you try to pull too much power, the unit will either have an automatic cut out or internal fuse. Worse case scenario is that the car fuse that supplies the cigarette lighter blows (about 25p from a car accessory shop). It's highly unlikely that that fuse also protects circuits for legally mandated items such as brake or indicator lights. e.g. in my car the fuse also protects the interior light, radio & clock.

I think he meant, if there's a fault with your car (electrics) then usng an invertor will bring it to light due to the power consumption or something. I can't see it happen myself but I know what he is trying to say.

I have a similar one and it is great. Saves buying car adapters for all your different phones and chargeable items when you go out.

Another great product for the car is a usb adaptor like this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9872

Most chargable items come with usb cable so this is great.
