Acoustic Solutions DVD160RW300 DVD Recorder with 160GB HDD is currently HALF PRICE at Argos for a very reasonable £69.99, if you search Argos you will see 2 more Acoustic Solutions DVD HDD Recorders that come in just under that price (slightly lower spec.. models).

The Wharfedale HDMI 1 looks excellent:thumbsup:

I know this is off topic but, since the new site launch, I have not recieved a single email alert from hotukdeals, usually I get 1 every other minute as soon as one is posted, can anyone explain why this has stopped, and how I can get it back?

This one you mention here doesnt have a HDD. The beauty of the one advertised in this thread is that it does have a HDD.

It does have a HDD because I went to buy 1 yesterday. But it is likely that they will subsitute the 160Gb version for a Wharfedale as thats what they did with the 80Gb one.

But Wharfedale has better features so it works out an even better deal

You sure you posted the right link? the one you mention, you say £59 but the link takes you to one priced £89

Silly question time:

Can this record from Sky/Cable over SCART or is the SCART out-only?

Can someone advise me on the following;

I'm looking for an HDD/DVD recorder with twin tuners (ideally both digital) that can pause Live TV and record all parts/episodes of a series.

Anything close to that on the market? Nearest I have found is the new Sony range but it doesn't have twin tuners or Live TV pause.

You want a HDD/DVD recorder that has twin tuners and can pause live TV, and the nearest you have found doesn't have either:? - that doesn't sound near to what you what at all!

Something like the Sony RDR-HXD1070 HDMI DVD Recorder with 500GB HDD, Freeview on Argos site - not cheap?

Panasonic DMR-EX87EB-S DVD Recorder with 250GB HDD,Freeview, also from Argos?

A HUMAX PVR9200TBX offers what you want from the HDD recording side of things and you could get a separate DVD recorder if required - cheaper than the Sony!!
#21
Thanks for the prompt reply, erics.

I had meant to say that the Sony doesn't have twin DIGITAL tuners; so the only feature that it's missing is the Live TV pause. BTW, there is a 120GB HDD version (770) for around £150...

I had thought about the Humax/DVD recorder option as well as building my own Media PC but the other members of my household would find it too complicated to use...;)
#22
I don't see a mention of freeview, does it have an analogue tuner?
#23
Can someone just clarify if it is the 80gb or the 160gb player that you are likely to get replaced with the wharfedale one with freeview. (have reserved both but not sure which one to get!)
banned#24
Analogue tuner only. However the Wharfdale they often replace it with has digital tuner
banned#25
tis the 80gb that is often replaced. Cant comment on the 160

many thanks

We watch mainly freeview and I want a product that will record one side while we watch the other, I am still somewhat baffled by all the different types of recorder/hd

Will this recorder allow us to record one side and watch the other

can someone just clarify what type of machine I require
#28
HERE is the thread on the 80Gb version

If you want to record freeview I wouldn't bother with a recorder that does not have a built in freeview tuner, otherwise YOU will have to manually set your freeview source to the channel you wish to record and will not be able to watch another channel while recording.
Does you TV have a built in Freeview tuner or do you have an external freeview box? You will want a recorder that does have a freeview tuner so it will be able to control that leaving you free to watch another freeview channel using your TV/external freeview box.
If you don't currently have a freeview source, and want to keep everything in the same box, you will need a recorder with twin freeview tuners - one that you can watch and one that you can record from so that they can be operated independently.

I just got the Wharfdale one reserved for collection after it being out of stock for a long time, guess it's retruns from people. That's the 160gb without Freeview, similar to the Ac Sol one. Thought it a better machine than for a fiver dearer (74.99)

I see some complaints above the noise they make though.
