I wonder if the offer is valid in the UK?

Worth it for a new 1 year warranty.... £30 quid!

Theres a Gamestop in Birmingham in the Bullring and they are quite good, they are selling the Death Edition of Dante's inferno for £45 rather than GAME's £55 (same special edition just price).

I would go for this deal if it was near me. I have a 320GB HDD in my PS3 (originally 40GB) but I think it is on the way out now... This would give me a new warranty and I could put the original HDD back in and keep the 320GB without having to worry about losing data and then I would end up with a handy 160GB external HDD.

I just rung the 2 Belfast stores and they are sold out :(
#13
Just be aware that you can't copy some save game files from one PS3 to another (Examples: SFIV, Killzone 2). You can do a full system backup but data that is locked to the original PS3 will NOT be restored onto the new one.

Also you can't (that I am aware of) remove a HDD and transfer it to another PS3 and keep all the data either.

Quite true that. Our 80gb was on the way out so we traded it in for a slim when they came out and whilst I could transfer most of the saves, there were one or two that refused. The new NFS Shift also wont transfer which is irritating...
#15
Gamestop? If I have to fly to the USA I want two PS3s for free. Ho ho ho j/k
#16
How long are PS3's lasting? 2 friends bought them at the same time/store and both have stopped working 14mths in.
Blinking red then a yellow light then red, i think. Is it a typical fault or a simple fix? They were both quoted £169.
#17
deal confirmed by Birmingham bullring branch, but they only had ONE 160gb left. Hurry HURRY!

You could , but this deal would get a you a new warranty , plus the downloadable games and the more energy efficient console compared to the old chipset in the 40gb model. Oh , and a dual shock controller which you didn't have with the 40gb model.
#19
Does the PS3 have to be 100% working? I've got a PS3 60gb and the laser assembly has stopped reading discs. A new PS3 would be good...
#20
Sorry re-read the post, my 60gb not covered :(

Ignore Plssss

Cold, as they wont take a 60gb model :(

Why does that make it cold? Still hot for many others. Idiot.

Am I right in the thinking the 160GB model is backward compatible? Would be worth trading my 40gb just for that

No, the 160Gb model was a Limited Edition available from end of October 2008 until stocks lasted. This model cannot play PS2 titles "out of the box".

I bought two & they are (still) in daily use by two of my kids.

The redemption codes for the games alone must be worth £30!

The codes for the downloadable games have expired.

Pretty sure I remember a guy who'd bought a 160GB PS3 in Currys and when he went to download the game the codes had expired.

That is a fair point... I think they did expire at the end of 2009.

However, if GameStop are offering 4 downloadable games with the item & these are not available then you should be entitled to a discount or items of a similar nature/price.

If GameStop have not marked the item with the reason for the discount then you are entitled to what is offered.

I would ask in-store at GameStop if you are unsure.

PS. brendymullan: Do the console(s) you exchange have to be working & supplied with original SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 controller(s)?

Or can you exchange a faulty console?

(Watch everybody rush to certain auction sites or scour the "For Sale / Trade" Forum if you reply with "...you can exchange a faulty console"!).

You can transfer pretty much all data, including games, dlc, installs, save files (inc 'locked' ones) etc from 1 PS3 to another if you use the data transfer utility which Sony added in the last firmware update.

Can't believe they had more than about a dozen to begin with, but.........hot if you can find it. Better if youve got a clapped out and fully working 40gb, rather than a mint 80gb like myself

Any difference in the power drain between the 80 and 160gb models? Assume they just wacked a bigger drive in, called it "ltd edition" and left it at that..

I was thinking the same, mine isn't reading discs either so am stuck playing demos at the mo. Can get fixed for about £90 but £30 for one with 12 months warranty sounds more attractive.
Wonder if they fully test them before accepting.

Because if you use them loads they eventually break down ! I have an original 60GB model and have fixed the YLOD problem 4 times.
It isn't just the 60GB version, its a fault with the board on all mk1 PS3's.

...due to the increasing use of lead-free solder.

As soon as the solder reaches a certain temperature the components separate & lose connection with each other.
