I always use Canadian Affair from Gatwick to Toronto. http://www.canadianaffair.com/

Current pre-tax fare for 7th and 12th are

£14.50 to Toronto
£64.50 back to London.

The carrier would be Transat and/or Thomas Cook. Its no frills like Globespan, but at least you get a meal included in the price unlike Globespan.

My little tip, is try to get the row of seats second back after they change from 3 to 2 abreast at the back of the aircraft. I had more legroom last time in economy doing this than when I flew in Premium.

Canadian Affair are also ok for Car Hire and Hotel Rooms. They often do good deals downtown like at the Sheraton, I saw it for about £44 a night a little while back.

Remember with Car Hire, Enterprise are cheap and they will come and pick you up, rather than you try to find them. Plenty of locations in downtown TO.

FLIGHT PRICE 1 GBP 79.00 GBP 79.00
AIRPORT TAX & CHARGES 1 GBP 139.00 GBP 139.00
Why do we put up with stupid STUPID taxes like this, this is not a green tax but greed tax for the Government, therefore a family of 4 travelling to Canada, for example, will have to shell out £556 before they even pack their bags. Then they have to get to the airport, parking charges!!, food!! accommodation at the other end and spending money the list goes on. It would not be too far out of the way to need £5000 for a two week holiday in Canada. Right, let's stay at home this year and buy something that will last a little longer than a tan. :x

The taxes are hideous. I just looked at some flights and got this:

DescriptionQuantityPriceTotal FLIGHT PRICE2GBP 319.00GBP 638.00
AIRPORT TAX & CHARGES2GBP 145.00GBP 290.00

So almost the cost of another return flight in taxes!

at the risk of playing devil's advocate - why do people feel that they should be able to afford to fly to another continent? If you can't afford it, don't go... Holiday's in this country don't cost £5000. We live in greedy times.

Thanks to op.

The cheapest I can find in May from Newcastle or Manchester is around £366 inc taxes for two, has anyone got a better price?

Canadian Affair prices are alot more after taxes!

Cheers,
G

It's not a case of not affording it, it is just the fact that as much is 'given' to the Goverment as the flight is worth. It makes things very hard on families who try and save up for a trip somewhere and then find they have just as much to pay in taxes. This year we will be staying in the UK, only because the planes are a bit unsafe at the moment but that's another story :whistling:

Surely the governments higher tax to discourage people to use cheap airplanes as much is a good thing, especially as there is no tax on the fuel. Heres a good website to travel across the world by train http://www.seat61.com/, in my opinion this sort of travel only adds to the fun of going on holiday.:santa:
