I wonder whether, like me, you want the best of both worlds (ooer missus) - a smartphone with an excellent decent sized touch screen and a full qwerty keyboard. If so this is the cheapest way I can find to get hold of the HTC Desire Z. Although this is an 18 month contract (with a poor allocation of 100 mins, 500 texts, and astonishing lack of data) this works out cheaper than any new SIM free deal that I could find, leaving you free to use this in conjunction with giff gaff's goody bags or some other deal.

18 month contract on O2 - 100 mins, 500 texts, no data

20.50 x 18 = £369

However you may downgrade your contract half way through to £15 per month. Do this and you'll pay £319.50

20.50 x 9 = 184.50 +
15.00 x 9 = 135.00

I understand that you can get cash back via Quidco as well, but am new to that so will let others explain if anyone has questions about that.

Actually I'm also new to buying mobile phones (until recently I could use my work's mobile), so maybe someone could help out this newbie and answer the following questions:

Will I be able to use the SIM from this to get the minutes and texts that this comes with AS WELL as using a giff gaff sim to get the minutes, texts and data that that sim comes with? Or can you only use 1 sim with a phone?

Also I note that the HTC Desire S is due to be released on 18 April - is this likely to bring the price of the HTC Desire Z down (I can wait until the 18th if need be).

any 02/tesco sim will def work, though the desire z's i have come across have been unlocked anyway.
with this being a "qwerty" handset and the desire s not being then i doubt that release would impact price of this handset though prices will drop on this as i have had mine for near 6months already.
