For the same price you could go to Aria and get this:

http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/19%22+Arianet+HD+Ready+LCDTV+with+Integrated+Freeview+%26+DVD+%2F+DIVX+Player+?productId=31441

Shipping is £11.95 though

It does play Divx if you really want it....

"Can't be used as a pc moitor. "

Why cant it be used as a PC monitor?
Resolution: 1680 (H) × 1060 (V)
Surely you just need a pc with a DVI output and a DVI to HDMI converter. Lots of these type of cables and adapters at dealextreme.
#9
sounds excellent value for money, particularly with the warranty, gutted cause I'm working down south at the mo and my local aldi in Glasgow would have these.

The Aria only has a 1 year warranty though compared to the Aldi one having 3 years.

I was looking in to this last night and DVI output apparently only carries picture and not sound. Would you need a seperate audio cable as well as using this DVI to HDMI converter and an HD cable?

Thanks

There's a Venturer one today at Comet for £166, if someone can get various discount offers then this might be easier than the mad rush for Aldi items like this.
#13
Doesn't seem that cheap for a no-brander.

Decent warranty, though.

You could get this 19inch Matsui that includes HDMI, Componet, VGA and Scart connection, with Freeview for £158 approx.

Its £166 online at Dixons but if you use FIVETV and DELTV you get 5% off and free delivery.

Additionally you can get a logic HDMI cable for £4.77.

http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1165814263.1228224995@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccddadefkmfkjejcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=924842&category_oid=

If the link doesnt work search Matsui LCD DVD on their site.

#18
As with Skyblue...........can you mount this on the wall????
#19
1 HDMI and 1 scart?
Sounds a bit s@@t to me,even with the 3 year warranty, which will probably be needed.

Eh? You aint goint to get multiple HDMI connections on LCD/DVD combi at this price!

Get real!

The cut in VAT will mean it's cheaper than the advertised literature. I bought the multimedia unit on Sunday and it came up on the till at £58 whilst advertised at £59.99. Didn't really understand it as the VAT cut didn't come in till monday but i didn't question it obviously.

Looks quite reasonable for the money. As other people have asked, is this wall-mountable? And what would the sound quality be like? The output on the speakers is a bit "weedy" Thanks :)
#24
My dad bought one of these, when they were £199 its a great TV and he's got his on the wall.

Why have a HD ready tv if you aren`t going to watch HD dvds and a HD feed from Sky etc?
As well as wanting to connect to a pc
Doesn`t state that it has any vesa holes so I`d pull one out of the box before buying and check.

Anyone know if this has an analogue tuner as well as the digital one (for those of us outside Freeview coverage)?
#27
seen this on the leaflet given out, looks a great buy, heading down tommorow mornign for one
#28
just got back what a joke only 7 in stock and some greedy knobs bought 2
#29
Turned up at the Coventry branch at 9am, they had a pallet of about 20, not sure if there were anymore. Managed to get one anyway, most of the people there bought one. Seems like a good tv, not set it up yet though.

Anyone know if the DVD is divx capable or multi-region?

Bought one today, just tested it. Yes. Which is much more than I expected for the money - I've wanted a dvd multiregion combi for ages and had given up!

Far better quality than I would have expected - very pleased with the picture. Sound is probably as good as you can get for this size/price - not brilliant, but sounds ok to me.

(I'm no expert though. :))

Any yes, it does have an analogue tuner.
#31
Don't know about divx, though - only tested multiregion.
#32
Thanks for the feedback, good to hear you like it.

I went to our Aldi in Bletchley and there was no-one there, the staff didn't even know they had them in - but the manager went out the back and took one from a pallet for me to look at , they had loads.

My mum went to her local store in Scotland - she was there about 8.50am and was 12th in the queue - the store got a delivery of 14... so she got one, but just.

Looks like some stores don't get queues and some do? in the past the other Aldi in MK has been queued out for such items by 8.30, so from now on I'll be going to the Bletchley store.
#33
Got the last one in Aldi at Ipswich at about 14:30.

Just finished setting it up before putting it back in it's box for a Xmas pressi.

Quality of picture is very good, much better than expected, it has Analogue tuner and digital tuner (freeview), also a slot for a Top up card, DVD player worked well, it will also play mp3's and jpegs (camera photo's) via the dvd player. Sound is a bit weedy but you can connect it up to a different sound source if needed.

Cracking piece of kit for the money, especially with a 3 year warranty, ideal TV for the Kids bedroom. many thanks to the OP.

I got mine from the other Aldi in MK! 3-4 pm - no-one else (at the time) was looking for one - they weren't on display though, had to be got from the back, and I've no idea how many were in stock.

I like it so much I'd buy a 2nd one if I had the money ... !!! :-D
#35
Brought one today from Bradley Stoke Bristol
They had about 30 in stock.

Got it home and the front was alittle damaged. Took it back tonight at 18:00 and they had 7 left.
Setup tonight and can confirm its a cracking little set.

Tesco do DVD/LCD combi for £169 but never brought one.

This ALDI deal is better because of the 3 year warranty and IMHO looks better than the tesco TV

Thanks OP:santa:
#36
Got one too but are they mountable?

Can confirm it plays divx/xvid no problem, i had bought the multimedia player on sunday anyway which goes well with the tv but the dvd on the tv does play anything i've thrown at it so far. Most of my films / tv are on divx.

Thanks for the feedback, guys - rep added to both. Looks like I may be too late. I'll try my luck tomorrow!

Anyone else finding the standby light too bright? I'm thinking about taking it back as it is for the bedroom but without turning it on and off at wall it's unuseable as a bedroom set.
#40
Does anyone find the dvd eject slow (sticky) as it is lined with some spongy stuff?
