According to an advert in Today's Sun, Currys is partnering with Virgin Media to offer to new subscribers a stonking deal - A 32-inch LCD screen for £199.99. Egg.com (And Quidco) users could be quids in if they can collect cashback from both sides.

The Virgin/Currys deal stipulates that you have to sign up to Virgin Media for 24 months on their 3 services for £30 deal (broadband, telly, phone) in order to get that £300 discount.

It looks as if Dixons, which is behind the Currys brand, has been satistied with their recent broadband deal with Orange (which also gave £300 to new broadband customers).

Interestingly, it also provides us with an idea of how much Virgin Media puts the retention costs at - somewhere between £200 and £300 per customer.

The deal though is only valid for new cabled customers. Others won't be as lucky. 2 for £20 customers will grab only a £100 discount.

Both Virgin and Currys have yet to update their websites to reflect the advert displayed.

Dunno if existing customers are getting it. HOWEVER, if you're nearing the end of your contract OR if you're planning to ditch Virgin, then... you can always call the retention service.

Anyone got a scan of the advert?

Scan of an A3 page? Nah... Just buy the Sun today... 20p... Page 22.

Spend 20p!

I'll nip in to woolies at lunch time and have a look, if they have any left.

:)

Don't be daft. No need to scan the page. Just take a photo of it. ;-)

A halfway decent telly for £200 but awful broadband service for two years? Might have to give this one a miss. Two years of my life held back by slow or not working internet access is surely worth more than £300? Honestly- the last time I had virgin/ntl I spent more than £300 in the internet caf...

i've been on ntl/virgin for near on 15years and i have had slow broadband for less than 2 days out of that time..their service in my opinion is superb...i have 4meg broadband and download speeds are 3.95mb . Never had a problem..maybe i'm one of the lucky ones

Likewise spacebhouy, had diamond cable/ntl/virgin broadband for years now (not as many as yourself) and like anything it doesn't offer 100% uptime, but the outages are extremely rare and the service is pretty much spot on 99% of the time here in Nottingham.

I too have never had a problem with NTL/WM broadband until I had to deal with their customer services who are terrible, but their tech support on the other hand was very good and the broadband and tv itself has always been spot on 99% of the time.

on that advert it says that the 26'' and the 32'' are both £149 when you take out 3 for £30 deal. that might be a typo, but I still reckon this is a good deal!

Virgin BB is superb. No hidden charges either.

does anyone know the exact model numbers of TV?

And what happens after 12 months? Can you select any contract?

Been toying with the thought of ditching Pipex and BT and going to VM for a while.

£55 quidco was quite tempting - this might just tip the scales.

not as good a deal as one would first think. The 3 for £30 deal can be negotiated down to £15-£20 if you call retentions so you are in effect tied into an excess charge if £10-£15 for 24 months.

I pay £26.95 a month for XL TV/XL Phone/XL Broadband (20MB).

Called them recently?

They switched to new billing systems this month and if you had a deal from the NTL/Telewest days then you are in for a shock, all those discounts were flat out cancelled when the new system came into play.

You have to re-ring retentions to set them up again and the new system stops stupid discounts being possible.

I ended up going up £5, so took the VIP pack and got movies and 20mb broadband for an extra £10 a month.

If you are a new customer, you will not get this deal.

I just signed up and they would only give me L TV, M Phone, M broadband in the 3 for £30.

Given that you currently get XL TV, which is an extra £10/month, as part of the 3 for £30 when you sign up, this is a super deal.

could be considered immoral.

but go for it. Can't see how that's a problem. you genuinely decided you didn't want it any more, someone else decided they needed it and signed up as a new customer....
