prob cos it's from Scam, and it's one of their 'today only' deals (which can be a proper PITA to see if you're not used to the place)

Wow, this has come down in price since I last looked. Pretty sure it was around £190ish when I looked a month ago.

But the 5850 is very nearly in a par with the 6870, so you could say you've saved over £40.00.:)

Incidentally, you could have bought a brand new sapphire Xtreme 5850 for £97.77 delivered here:

http://www.edock.tv/sapphire-technology-radeon-hd-5850-xtreme-1-gb-gddr5-pci-express-2-1-11162-15-20g.html

But you probably don't want to hear that, sorry....

thanks andyken, been out of the GPU race for a while, so no idea on the range. Anyway, it will do for my ETQW :D.

Cheers

hmmm, not so much 'very nearly'; 6870 is faster, more efficient, runs cooler, and does eyefinity..

i know which i'd rather have..

+1, 6870 is defnitely faster and this MSI card overvolts and 'should' have a healthy overclock too. also its cooling system is by far one of the best.

Have you personally ordered something from that shop? It gets awful reviews, and people only getting their items, after claims being raised with credit card companies.

That website edock.tv has been reported on the net so many times, sending wrong items or no items at all. Google it, would steer well clear, just a friendly warning to anyone considering buying from them. Use Scan, Ebuyer, Amazon uk, Aria or Novatech etc rather than these guys...

About 13% difference at stock. speeds

Ah sorry, this is a 6870, so figures a bit better (but not by very much); 2,849
Also in the reciept at the end of my transaction, it says;

1GB MSI HD 6870 HAWK with Twin Frozr III fan, 4200MHz GDDR5, GPU 930MHz, 1120 Streams + Free Shogun2

So looks like you also get Shogun 2. Makes it an even more tasty bargain :)

Will update this thread if it turns out you dont get S2, (but as this is a one day offer, it will be too late for everyone else by then of course!)

Guys, would this fit in my Dell Vostro 430 case? I've got a proper power supply which I am going to install once I'll buy the graphic card. I've been looking for a good deal for months.

Thanks for the advice guys. No, not personally bought from them, just came up on a Google search, will definitely avoid.

I will say though, that a few other (more reputable) places are selling the Sapphire Xtreme 5850 for only a little over £100, around £40 less than the 6870 for a performance that is in the region of 90 to 95% as good (depending on whose benchmarks you go by).

admittedly the 6800 cards run cooler and more efficiently than the 5800's, but considering past performance increases (3800 to 4800, 4800 to 5800) I think the 6800 cards are a bit of a let down and will be heavily, heavily discounted when the next 7800 series cards are released.

Not saying this is a bad deal and heat added, just my opinion, for what its worth.:)
#19
Excellent mid range card! I've got one of these which is sufficient for now as all I'm playing is BC2. But will be getting a 2nd one just before BF3 comes out! Hopefully price will go down even further by then!
#20
#21
Is this worse then 5850 which can be had for £120?
#22

Yes, but this was such a ridiculous one-off deal, that it's not really fair to judge all gfx deals against it.

Any notion when that might be cos I've been tempted by the 5850 deals but I'm not desperate I can hold a few months at least til Skyrim comes out.

According to this, pretty soon now, probably this autumn:

Actually that was not a deal at all. More like a misprice. ALL the orders were cancelled by ebuyer.

This for a change is a genuine deal. Although I think Sapphire 5850 extreme offers far better value for money at £40 less!!!

I didn't know that - that's not very good form by ebuyer. It's funny though, because noone on that thread has said this.

Also, the 5850 probably does give you better grunt-for-your-buck, but the 6870 is the cooler operator and has nicer bells and whistles.

Actually I don't think that benchmark is that accurate. Isn't the 5850 more powerful than the 6850?
Obviously there are benefits to the new card.

Hmm, that free Shogun 2 game (as per my previous post) seems to have dissapeared on the invoice I recieved today (although it *was* on the order confirmation page on the website).

Oh well... wait and see.

awesome price!
extremely tempting, but im gonna wait for the 7K series to knock down the 6K series prices :D!
