Also you can use memory advisor tool here to check whether your lappy supports this RAM

Fantastic! My HP zv5383EA has 2 x 256MB which is abysmal by todays standards, and just screams when trying to run Vista as a virtual machine (no wonder...). Im just pondering whether to boost it to 1GB or 2... But a good price anyway! On eBay the cheapest single 512MB for PC2700 is £9 delivered.

Voted hot!

It's not a bad price but their are better deals, also the speed of the ram is alittle slow.
Play are doing a 1GB from £10.99.

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3274827/Kingston-KVR533D2S4-1G-Valueram-Computer-Memory-1GB-PC4200-DDR2-533Mhz-200-Pin-SODIMM/Product.html

Ebay is a good place too, I've been buying 512MB for between £1.50 - 2.50 delivered, and 1GB's for £3.50 - 4.50 delivered to upgrade family and friends Laptops.
Ram for new Laptop's are very compatable no matter what you have and easy to install, I've purchased about 10 sticks and checked them in my Acer laptop, all work, installation is about 2 mins.

SEE LOWER POST FOR UPDATE, SORRY

If you can show me where you can get me this exact spec RAM for my Powerbook for cheaper, youll make me very happy indeed!

1GB
PC2700
200 Pin

Play.coms RAM is £30 for the same spec, youre paying more for the 200 pin ram!

And PNY is rubbish.

You don't need the same speck of ram, better will step down to the lower spec.
You want to pay £24 for PC2700 (333) 200 Pin when you can get PC4200 DDR2 533Mhz 200 Pin SODIMM for £12 is mad.
Ram that is of the same "type" for PC's & Laptops will be able to use higher spec ram, it just steps down to the lower speeds, obviously you carn't do it the other way, lower spec ram to higher speeds.
The laptop I have tried the e-bay ram in can only run at 400ish Mhz but the 533 & 677Mhz work fine.

DDR and DDR2 are not compatible! DDR is generally much more expensive than the newer DDR2 due to the lack of demand/manufacturing of the older RAM.
#9
I stand corrected, in my haste to post I didn't notice it was the old DDR and not DDR2, yes DDR is more exspensive because it is now out of date.
As an update to the e-bay thing, I have just watched 2 auctions of 512MB "DDR" sell for £3.49 & 4.12 delivered, no 1GB's have gone through yet but I will post when they have if anyone is interested.
#10
512MB DDR's will pretty much always be much more than 50% cheaper than it's 1GB counterpart. DDR1 is damn expensive these days :-(

Just cant make my mind up to get 1 or 2GB though :P
#11
Yeah just to add to above you cant really compare DDR & DDR2 as they are not compatible. This is why I posted the memory advisor tool. In general if your going to buy a 1gb DDR card it retails for about £40 with any reputable retailer!

Plus eBay can be a lottery!

Well it says that here:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=633727

I didnt bother to read the whole thread though incase i missed the deal!
#14
Well i did it and have no where near 30 posts! Although I think you'll lose free delivery after awhile when they see you have not posted regularly.
#15
I got the free lifetime delivery offer ages back... it wasnt through posting on the forums, but I think it was just to register on them. Since then it's changed, but from my understanding it's when you make repeat purchases under £20 that they will think about taking away your free deliver.

That said, if you are paranoid you will lose free delivery because technically the order is under £20 (excl. vat), you could top the order off with this 36p cable (cheapest item I can find):

I saw this last night and ended up going with a couple of 1gb sticks off ebay for £21 a go. Delivery made it more expensive though. Total for a 2 x 1gb sticks was £51.98
#17
I think this is now over at least I can't see it on today only.
#18
Yes, price appears to have gone up now!
#19
does anyone know if this memory at play.com...

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/327482...M/Product.html

will fit in a dell inspiron 9100 laptop?
#20

I'm not as up to date as I used to be in I.T, but I used to get my memory from Crucial and they do 2 x 1gb of this memory for £28.
Not sure about quality, but it looks the same speed/type.

I managed to order a couple of these OCZ 1GB PC3200 SODIMMs for £26.16 each before they ran out of stock (they only had 4 to begin with).

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/106082

The best thing is that I got free delivery too as my order was over £50

I should get them by Friday 9th.
