Surely the 1GB memory is too low for use by the average user in the modern day?

A double disc cd will take up 100mb at the very least, let alone a few decently encoded videos - ok as a gift for your Grandma probably.

Handy built in radio though, unlike most mp3/4 players.

could 'cold votes' offer a better alternative :)

i agree about capacity, my use would be mainly for the radio tbh

I've bought several of these for me and my family due to the excellent reviews and tiny price. These are 2gb to start with plus support mini sd cards which you can get for a fiver for another 2 gb from 7dayshop.com or play.com for a bit more but free delivery. It would be possible to have a couple of these cards with to swap around between your devices as many come with adapters to fit Mini Sd, Micro sd and normal sd devices. For less than 16 quid it's a handsdown bargain.

jyonda,

That 2GB Ebuyer one with mini SD car support looks interesting. The pictures show something like a mini speaker on the back of the case. Does it have a loudspeaker to listen to MP3s without earphones on?

Oops, just saw the details on Ebuyer which say it is a speaker. I take it that the speaker sound quality is pretty poor but just about acceptable for a young child that we might not want to risk damaging ears by using earphones that we can't tell if the music is too loud?
