Stunning price. 58XX's must be just around the corner. They'd have to be an AMAZING improvement to be worth paying a premium for seeing as 4870 and 4890s are now so cheap! HOT HOT HOT
#2
Unbelievable. Weren't the 4890 range priced up as a shade under £200 just a month or so ago? And now a £50 drop and free game? :-|
#3
Wow, I've decided I'm gonna go for this card ;D. It's also 145.99 @ OCUK, and to quote:

***EXCLUSIVE Premium Priority 2 Year Warranty***

In the unlikely event of your card failing within 2 Years, OcUK will replace your card with a brand new one, pending testing within our standard RMA terms and conditions (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/support.php)
#4
Very good price. Still quoted as £200 in customPC
#5
Probably silly question but is this a double slot card? Anyone got dimensions for it?
Also how are the temperatures and overclockability?

It is double slot, temps are supposed to be quiet friendly too, your best bet is too google for a review, they normally cover overclockability, dimensions, temps, energy usage and compare the card too

It uses a single pci express slot but it is quite big so it will take 2 slots. As for overclocking ability I've heard they can go well over 1ghz core stable which is alot :D

incidentally, i just got around to ordering mine... There is some sort of installation insurance that scan sell called "scansure" that is selected by default on the order. So make sure you deselect that to get the right price.

That's good. What do Scan offer if you buy from them.
Are Overclockers OK now? I heard some horror stories in the past.

I'm using a 8800GT at the moment.I'm seriously considering this card. Never bought ATi before. The double slot probably won't be too much of an issue for me.
These ATi card are often really long. I doubt thatt here will be much clearance room in my case with this card. I will have to do some research.

Excellent card and excellent price, good find.

Have a look on any online website review site.

I know there are alot of bad experiences up on the review sites for OCUK but first hand I've always known them to be decent, and that 2 year retailer cover seems worth choosing them imo. I think they offer free delivery if you're a regular poster on their forums too, not 100% sure tho.
#16
Good find.
#17
I bought my bits from OCUK and had no problem at all. Luck o' the draw I guess.

Overclockers? No thanks. I bought a card from them with a three year guarantee, it died after 18 months and they put the phone down on me, wouldn't discuss it, didn't want to know. I only buy from reputable companies nowadays.
#19
Damn, I keep telling myself my 4850 is good enough and I don't need this beast of a card.

Good find though.

After ringing - looks like the Scan one sold out... not surprised - good deal indeed.

[Same price I payed for my 6600 only a few years ago!]

Also seems to have been alot of "dodgy" postings on their forum in the past

Hi,

So this is a double slot gpu but it isn't a 2* gpu is it ?
It's just my mobo is single slot only so have been looking for a decent 2* gpu to give me the power of crossfire but for use in my system.

Any ideas ?
#23
if you have a crossfire system this will blow the HD4890 out of the water for a few quid more

PALIT 512MB RADEON HD 4850 SONIC PCI-E 2.0 GDDR5 SPECIAL EDITION

This card is finally available in extremely limited amounts on the net.

This is an overclocked HD4850 which has GDDR5 memory rather than the normal GDRR3 memory that all other HD4850 have.

this puts the card at almost the same spec as the more expensive HD4870 which retails around the £110 to £130 mark at the moment.

basically ATI threw a wobble at palit (and gainsward which palit own) for making this card and stopped these companies having access to their 4890 and 4770 chips.

there is only one retailer at present with these card

http://www.ginger6.com/components-video-cards-palit-512mb-radeon-4850-sonic-pcie-gddr5-special-edition-p-32146.html

they have 11 in stock at the moment (they did have 13 but i got 2 for a crossover set up which will trounce a HD4890).

this is selling for £82.

see these reviews

http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/13812/40/

http://wccftech.com/forum/computer-talk/25800-palit-4850-sse-ddr5-review.html

these are for the gainsward card but the palit card is identical

as 2 HD4770 will outperform a HD4890, these will trounce it.

It can only mean one thing- something new is just around the corner..... as always. Good find if you need a card today tho.

Indeed there is

ATi's next gen cards are coming out very soon (5 series). They will hopefully wipe the floor of this.

Nice price.
#26
Strange why theres a lot of negativity towards overclockers, never had a problem with them myself, and anything that has been faulty has been replaced with no probs.

ooops sorry, i expired...

thought it was a today only thing :(

EIDT: just read the due date... ouch

How well would this perform in GTA IV with a Phenom II? I'm doing a full system upgrade at present. I'm planning to keep my 1440x900 Acer monitor for now though as I don't buy into the whole HD buzzword thing and want to save money.
#30
odd, i got an email yesterday saying they werent getting stock till the 30th...
but ive just been sent the dispatch email :)

its also down to £139.99 at overclockers!

Already been mentioned and heckled.

I personally don't have a problem with OcUK though, ordered lots of stuff from them in the past and never had a problem even when returning faulty/konked goods.

This has now come back into stock for the same price , i.e. not pre-order any more.

Have you got the parts for your computer, or planning to buy? Because I would probably go for at least an Intel 5200/5300 CPU with 4GB RAM and a better motherboard, and I would not get a seperate sound card as most motherborads have adequate onboard sound.

As for the power supply you have linked, I would not buy it for use with this graphics card, I would get a branded one such as OCZ Stealth XStream 600W PSU, even though it is 3x as much it will be quiter and more stable, or this case + PSU bundle http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141707
