I found this in a store in Bedford today, I can only assume it's a short term national deal. I was about to buy their £4 pack which is 500 odd grams worth then saw this on the end of aisle plinth. If you're like me and eat more chicken than your neighbourhood fox you'll know this is not only a deal, this is the steal of the century.. Lol

I cannot confirm this company doesn't support the killing of children in Israel, nor can I confirm the chicken is halal. Nothing on the packaging, so I assume it is not. Either way it looks decent and not much dodgy end bits to cut off. I'm happy getting double the amount of chicken for £1 more than Tesco own.

Yeah I agree some butchers can be cheaper but your local butcher isn't national.

Who wants to freeze the other 4 kgs? - destroys the texture a bit.

OP has found a great deal for smaller quantities, I defy you to find a similar national deal, you won't.

Hot from me.

Plus not everyone has access to cash and carry type places.

And in regards to local butchers being cheaper, no butchers around here are open at 6pm,bor would they have anything left in stock. Someone like me who works all day and lives on Tescos door step, it's bang on the money in my eyes.

makro is free to join and i think i'd rather freeze it than pay the ridiculous prices tesco charges for their fillets

Cold from me, Halal is 35.00 for 10kg by me and not pumpped full of water. and they are huge breast.
Matter of fact a few halal butchers in cardiff sell the same ones between 35- 40.00 for 10kg.

Care to substantiate your claims that fresh supermarket chicken breasts are pumped full of water?

Not sure what rtc stands for, but I did put in the OP that it might just be a short term thing. I've thrown away the packaging now but it had an Indian looking name and logo on it. Wasn't Tesco own brand stuff.

Yeah its not hard weigh it before and after cooking...

The amount of water that comes out whilst cooking supermarket chicken is unreal. The organic stuff from the farm shop doesn't do it.

Use by date was 24/7. So I don't think it's is any less than normal off the shelf chicken.

I buy the 5kg packs of breast from Bookers. It's from Poland. A few months back, some batches of the fresh chicken smelled like shirt even when it was well in date. I think there was a 'problem' at the factory. No tummy upsets, but it didn't taste too great. They replaced it with no fuss. The quality is okay again now. It's £4 a kilo, I can't afford to be fussy.

Somebody in Poland was shirting on the fresh chicken?

You don't get that with Tesco chicken, that's all I'll say.

I also buy a 10kg box (Super Pollo brand) from my nearest halal grocers for £33. There tends to 41 pieces and for the price the quality is very good.

It just smelled shirty, there were no signs of any actual shirt on the chicken! Probably had the cooling system broken down in the factory and they just carried on working regardless.

Beg to differ, yes they do!!! We got fed up with the weekly return of chicken to Tesco because it smelled like eggy-farts when you opened the pack (I'm talking 2 out of 3 times!!). I now know that the smell is most likely down to the inert gas they put in when packaging it to maintain freshness, but it was not appetising. They replaced it every time but we just got fed up with it, Aldi stuff doesn't give us the same problem.

As for added water, most supermarket stuff is, I watched a programme on it and its pretty dirty, loads of syringes pump water into the meat as it goes past on a conveyor, how the hell they legally get away with it is beyond me. Its like them selling 1kg of coffee powder that has 250g of product and a lead weight in the bottom. As someone else said, it evaporates when cooked so you're paying for steam!!

Not sure what you mean by seller and stall?? Basically the meat in Tesco varies, most is OK, certainly edible and if you've not tasted "proper" meat from a good butcher it will be alright. Some however, is tasteless meat-like stuff! The more premium stuff is OK (not the rip of 'premium choice' stuff), just DONT touch the everyday value crap!!

Put it this way, I've had pork from Tesco and pork from our local butcher, the difference was immense. One was flavoursome and succulent, one tasted like mildly pork flavoured leather.... I'll leave you to guess which one was from where :)
