  ive got so many of these cheap ethernet cables, most of them have the plastic tabs snapped off, always happens when they become tangled with other wires and cables...arnt there any snap free cables ?

  Yeah, you can get them with hoods. Just check anywhere for hooded cat 5/5e/6 utps and you'll be singing.
