I know that Christmas is the last thing on peoples minds now and that cut-price Xmas goods after Xmas are hardly a new thing, but I was in the central Birmingham branch of WH Smith today and got some beautiful Xmas wrapping paper - cream with gold lettering - which was £2.79 a roll originally and was marked as 20p a roll. At the till it came up as 1p a roll!

They had box-sets of lovely quality cards for 20p for a 10-pack and huge bows for pressies for 20p each, plus 4-packs of gift tags for 20p.

These represent such huge reductions I thought of here immediately... I bought a lot but they still had quite a lot left, so if you live near a branch probably worth hunting down.

Great Price  I always get next years wrapping paper in the January 1/2 price sale, Plain coloured wrapping paper such as shinny red I use as birthday paper. It all goes away in the attic with the Christmas decorations.

Happy Christmas 2007 :whistling:

As an Ex member of staff of WHS. I should tell you that it was a mistake on the sales assistants behalf. They should have used a general merchandise code and entered in the price manually into the till and not scanned the barcode.

You was lucky - and it was prob a new member of staff!

As a current employee of WH Smith I just want to let you know that you you should not even be sold the product manually on a code.

It is known as penny stock- and should not be sold under any circumstances.

We would get shot for selling it at our store!!!! LOL

Oh well, 20p is still cheap. I just assumed they'd reduced it further and hadn't updated the price yet because the price had already been cut about four times!

We went in to our local store on Sunday and picked up 2 x rolls of wrapping papper, packets of gift tags, packets of Christmas "confetti", tubes of ribbon and even wine bags, all for a penny each!!

It was all marked up at 10p and we even checked with two members of staff, but it all scanned through at 1p, so we had stacks of it!

Thanks for the original post!!
