Big Brother - Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash £158.95

From Simply Electronics search Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash - sorry link not working

Got mine last year from Asda with £20 cashback £152.95 - great flash

Simply Electronics is a grey market importer so price isn't directly comparable (on the same logic, their price for the 320EX is £118.95), and there are always people who will prefer to buy UK/EU sourced SKUs. I'm not commenting on what's better here - I'd prefer to leave that to personal risk tolerances and morals, but both options are available.

For UK stock, this seems like a decent price (and heated as such). However, for the price that other retailers are selling this for, I'd say that the 430EXII starts to make more sense...

I agree, the voters on this site are too subjective, voting on their opinion on the product regardless of whether the deal found is cheaper than anywhere else. Unless it's 50p off gravy!
Camera stuff always seems to get voted down, at least to start with. I'm sure that there's a bunch of muppets who vote cold for anything hey wouldn't personally buy for themselves. I'll vote hot - even though I'm a Nikon user!
Your link doesn't work !!?? Where did you get the 430 for that price ?????

Canon Powershot S100 (Black) @ 1stcameras.com - £245.95

Canon S100 @ £239 + postage Seems like a bargain for a cracking little camera. Cheapest price I could find for a UK model from a UK based seller.

So I just ordered the lx7 from ukdigitalcameras for £304.99.

They confirmed it is US stock though.

Now I've ordered the nex 5n, s100 and lx7. Time for some refunds, or I can't afford to eat :-s
Hard to say, the same pros and cons apply as the LX7.

The S100 is more pocketable/lighter and doesn't need a lens cap.

The LX's are more ergonomical with more control, better grip and a brighter lens, especially at the long end.

It's not that the LX7 has a much better sensor than the S100 (though definitely a bit better), but once you're in to lower light shooting the LX7 can be at a much lower ISO for much lower noise. Or higher shutter speed at the same ISO.

So for gigs/festivals for example where you're zoomed in the S100 would maybe need ISO3200 with it's f5.9 aperture lens and look grainy as hell, where the LX7 could be at ISO800 (or less) and still have a faster shutter speed.

At wide angle the the difference is less pronounced but still worth having.

S100 is still a good camera though, don't get me wrong and a lot less than a LX7.

Thanks for the advice! what about the LX5 v S100, as prices are pretty similar?

I was looking at the LX5, but the s100 seemed to be marginly better reviewed, and better high ISO performance.

Would love the RX100 but can't justify the extra £200. LX7 would be tempting if it dropped to £300, but is IQ really that much better than the S100?

I originally bought a nex 5n which took amazing pictures, but I decided it was too bulky for gigs, beach, festivals, nights out etc, so it went back :-(
