Got 2 of these myself, third is in the post. Good drives although im aware some have had problems with drives DOA and only reporting 32MB of space. Dont let it put you off, they are warranted so as long as it works on arrival it should be fine :)

As with any HDD you should always keep a full backup like we all do (ppffffffttt ;) )

Yeah

Maxtor are the BEST :whistling:

Had bad experience with Samsung in past. Running both a Maxtor and Seagate and can't decide which one is better. both pretty awesome

All manufacturers drives seem to vary. In the past I've had a number of failures with IBM-deskstar and Maxtor drives but Samsung drives have been good for me in the past running fast and cool. I have read a few negative comments about these 1TB drives but they all seem to be associated with running windows on particular motherboards (from Asus I think). These drives are very popular so there are bound to be some comments on them.

All of my Samsung 1tb are the fastest drives I have ever owned even faster than My I-RAM and even when the 1TB's are used in a non raid they are still the fastest thing out there for $per gb @ 124 meg second writes
Maxtor are cheap n nasty now and should only be bought if you want to destroy data.

Seagate who own Maxtor should either sack who is responsible or or improve Maxtor relations by using same components that Seagate use.

The temperature sensors in these drives are, to put it nicely, defective. Several hardware sites have reported them showing lower than room temperature (which is obviously impossible unless samsung sneaked a refrigeration system in when nobody was looking). Draw your own conclusions.

They do (as of now they are rebranded Seagate drives).

I still would not trust it and therefore not buy one.

Cheers I bought one of these in May and its been no bother in fact I'm having to buy another so that I have space to return a WD5000AAKB IDE that has lasted 2 months. The 4 1/2 year old Maxtor it replaced is back in an working fine.
