Even cheaper than yesterday.
#2
i cant believe how cheap these are getting!!
#3
Should I snap one of these up or wait for them to get cheaper?
#4
Like all computer technology it's just going to keep getting cheaper regardless of when you buy.
#5
I resent the fact that I have to spam some ****** forum in order to get free delivery on this and for that reason alone, I am voting this cold.

But are we talking days/weeks or months?
#7
My guess is a couple of weeks and these'll hit £60. A month or two and they'll hit £50. But it's just a guess. The falling prices of 1.5TB drives are forcing these down too.

You don't have to spam the forum. You could always pay delivery. The whole point of Hexus forum free delivery is as a reward to helpful users of the Hexus forums. Those that spam the Hexus forum are really just abusing a perk for genuine members of that forum.

Having said that, I got free delivery from Scan for life from a different source. But I am also a reasonably active Hexus member.

The flip side of that is that 1/2 TB drives are still sitting at the £50 mark and aren't dropping, I want to upgrade my db with some new SATA RAID mirrors but may as well buy the TB ones.

If you have to ask, it suggests you don't need it right now. You'll know when you need it. Until then, save your money. Boring, yes, but you know it makes sense :)

Boring but good advice. Same with laptops..

How can I subscribe to the Scan "e-shot" or "scanshot" newsletter ?

Thanks

Or they could just give free delivery to every customer, but that would just be a bit too convenient now wouldn't it.

Seagate just released the 1.5TB drive, it is already available for 130+ quid, but I'll wait until it goes down in price to under 100 quid and get 2 of these monsters...3TB of HD space!!!

Voted hot but these will go further down in price, down to 60 quid in a few weeks time...buy one only if you really have to...
#15
I've been outta touch for a while..... so we've reached 1TB of HDD space? OMFG.......

are these better then the samsungs ones
#19
Definately. I had 2 x samsung 200gb drives fail within 12 months. They were less than a year old.

I am going to pick one of these up but not desperate at the moment, I have loads of drives lying around. Going to wait until they are around £50 then get one or two so I can make a complete backup of my pc and media files....

Can anyone recommend a decent external enclosure than can take more than one of these drives. 2 or 3 would be ideal !

The av forums link to scan for free delivery isn't working, I've been a member for a while and have 30 posts.

This is what I get when I click the link, there is also reference to having to spend £50 now and not £20 to get free delivery which is ok on this item obviously.

I also get this when I follow the ops link https://secure.scan.co.uk/aspnet/Shop/Basket.aspx?TrackingTag=msso7

It's also £73.90 Inc VAT now. The today only page shows it as £70.44 (inc VAT). This is why I hate Scan, they sent me a used product the first time I ever ordered from them and were very unhelpful. Then they can't make up how much their products are from page to page.
#21
Ok, Im going to wait a little longer, especially if the 1.5tb's will come down alot.

It's 20 posts, and 20 + vat spend. - see: http://www.avforums.com/forums/scan_offer.php

It was increased a while ago - before they temporarily halted the offer (apparently too many taking the wee-wee and ordering very low value orders) ... but it's back now with 20 posts / 20 pounds (plus vat - so 23.50 min)

I just rang to order some media - apparently theres a site issue thats being fixed at the moment... so the site should be working soon.

WD 640Gb drives at ebuyer for £48.30?

Oh, just the fact that we've moved from gigs to teras is what blows my mind.

I remember in 1989 we upgraded our HDD from 40MB to 60MB and I didn't know what to do with all that extra space!

Even cheaper than yesterday.

Tell me about it, I bought it for over £75 from scan on Monday (which was a cracking deal I might add) , and its dropped every day since...

Might have to get another to balance it out :whistling:

Can anyone recommend a decent external enclosure that could take 2 or more of these drives ?

This looks ok ?

http://www.storagedepot.co.uk/Enclosures-&-Cases/sc884/p733.aspx

I have decided to order one of these drives anyway. Means I can get rid of my 2x 500gb samsung drives..... Its for my business pc anyway so once you take off the vat and tax it only costs£30 anyway.....But the website seems to be down well the avforums free postage link is anyway....

That's a cracking price. They were £100 a few months ago and I bought a MyBook rather than these...
#28
I could do with 3 of theses - heheh!!!

Still some error with the scan site....
on the front page it states:

"We are currently experiencing technical difficulties and therefore not able to accept payments. We are currently working towards resolving this matter and services will resume as normal shortly. We apologise for any inconvenience. "

Maybe will be fixed tomorrow

I got both (one of each now in my D-Link DNS-323 NAS).... same drives but around 5watt less power (40% ish) from the WD. Maybe the Samsung is slightly faster, but for NAS style applications better to save power than have speed.... if your after speed neither drive is great :whistling:

P.S - Free delivery from e-buyer is around 4 days.... from scan its next day citylink
#37
And spin point = evil unreliable Samsung. I won’t buy another Samsung drive again. Their drives fail habitually...

If this offer was actually available I would order a couple of these drives and the enclosure.....
#38
Voted HOT.

Already got 2TB, but would like to replace an old 200GB drive for another 1TB drive, but in no hurry so will wait.
#39
It's working again now, and still in stock.
#40
ordered 2 with a dual enclosure and 2 free memory sticks. Free delivery £167. Seems like a good deal.
