Great reviews, performance and reliability.
This is by far our Best Selling 1Tb HDD - Renouned for its quietness and super 32Mb cache performance! Winner of 100's of awards too.

This 3Gbps SATA drive has a maximum of 334GB of formatted capacity per disk while also featuring Samsung's industry-leading NoiseGuard and SilentSeek technologies to eliminate acoustic noise. The Spinpoint F1 utilizes Samsung-developed perpendicular recording technology, which helps the drive set new records in both a real density and platter capacity.

According to estimates, this Samsung drive has a 50% lower failure rate than a two- 500GB-drive solution and as much as 31% fewer failures than five-platter 1TB drives.

The Spinpoint F1 requires fewer components than competing solutions while delivering enhanced reliability versus a 1TB drive with four or five disks or two 500GB disks. With fewer heads and disks, the F1 statistically has a lower probability of headdisk failures. According to estimates, this Samsung drive has a 50% lower failure rate than a two- 500GB-drive solution and as much as 31% fewer failures than five-platter 1TB drives.

Not bad price if you can get free delivery.

I personally pay the extra £4 and get it free delivery from Novatech (instead of £6.99 delivery from Scan) plus if you post more than 50 on Novatech forums you get free next day courier delivery.

As it has 3 platters does that mean you have to have 3 partitions as 3x333GB drives or can you set it up as 1x1TB drive? Maybe it's a stupid question because I couldn't find the answer anywhere...

It'll be seen as 1Tb drive.

Anyone knows if they are silent?

The Samsung ATA's used to be silent. The SATA's are plain and noisy like the rest of them , just like my 500GB one:(

Would this suit Sky HD?

If so are there any UK Hotdeals forum members using this drive?

the platters each have 333gb to contain 1tb, you can partition it however you like. 1tb for example

no harddrive platter has reached a 1tb density :)

According to all the reviews and tests it is one of the quietest 1TB drives with 7200RPM

Probably just your one, I recommend them to all my clients and they're as quiet as a mouse.

Excellent drives - I'd rate these my top consumer drive.

At an excellent price.

Unbeatable, really

Just ordered, excellent deal. I have one already that I paid £70 for back in the day, would recommend them to anyone.

The F3's are out soon and have 7200rpm and 500GB per platter. Means bigger and faster drives.

F1's have 7200rpm so difference is only a platter size
the price will be higher, plus 1TB is 1TB no matter how many platters you have:whistling:
and personally I dont think they will be too much faster

I didnt know that:oops:
it's a great huge forum though so you will find several interesting things to comment on, or just ask few questions here and there. It will be worth of doing so to get rid of that £7 delivery from the cost if you really after something from scan (now or in future), especially with special price tag like this one.

I created a new Scan account and a new AVForums account a couple of weeks back, and I was able to get free delivery without making a single post. Also it was to N. Ireland, which would normally never get free delivery on these offers. Without the free delivery, it would have been 16 or 17 quid delivery charge.

I'm not sure if it was a fluke or maybe a glitch or their system, but it worked for me, and I'm now sitting with a shiny new 4890 for 120 quid.

Of course those with free scan delivery this is probably no use to them, however those without might want to choose Aria. Personally I've had nothing but good experiences with Aria :)

I second that one, I've bought plenty from Aria and had no bad experiences.
