cold £58.62 @ dabs plus no need to post at forum for free delivery http://www.dabs.com/products/seagate-barracuda-1tb-7200rpm-32mb-sata-300-5G7R.html

Cool, Dabs doing free delivery, accepted, dabs is cheaper.

And even better price, for a brilliant drive!

Ordered the 500GB one from Amazon. Can still cancel and go for this. Any other reviews. One on dabs says noisy.

Will this be fine as a main hard drive with Vista on it. Only ask as it mentions low power eco etc.

The Amazon one was the same drive with just one platter at 500GB this is 2 platters at 1TB.

As for noise level, this is one of the best drives ...

Cheers - will order from Dabs then I reckon. Double capacity for £20 odd more

Mind you - mixed reviews here too

http://techreport.com/discussions.x/16472

and here:
Flashes of brilliance followed by otherwise dismal performance is sort of a theme for the new 'cuda. The drive fared better than any other in our iPEAK multitasking tests, but it stumbled spectacularly when faced with multi-user IOMeter loads. And at more than 17ms, the 7200.12's random access time is slower than, well, any other desktop drive we've tested. Ever. What's worse, there's no way for users to defy Seagate's factory programming and shift the drive out of its noise-optimized "quiet" seek mode.

With its performance all over the map, the Barracuda 7200.12 is difficult to recommend to enthusiasts looking for a speedy system drive. However, near-silent noise levels and low power consumption do make it an attractive option for quiet desktops and home theater PCs.

However, the drive's transfer rates in real-world file operations are mixed. The 7200.12 is very fast when it comes to real-world reads, but it's much slower than the competition when writing and copying files.

I'd rather order not from dabs, even though it is less expensive. dabs has no customer service or telephone number to call when things go wrong (which they do, believe me)

Just ring scan and say you are a member of av forum and the referrer doesn't work. they will give you free postage. scan is much safer to buy from than dabs (or BT.shop, which is the same company).

They are not interested in the truth. The fact that you know about the av forum assumes that you are a member (you can register free) the number of postings don't matter and you can do them later if you so wish.

Live chat refuses to deal with delivery problems. Good Luck. Just make sure you use a credit card with purchase protection (and not Google checkout). You can than reclaim your money from credit card (that's what I did).

Is this better than the new Samsung F3 1TB? It also has 2 platters, and is supposed to be faster than the F1..

Had major problems with dabs once, they refused to deal with it, and ended up in small claims court (where I won of course). Not another penny from me.

Agree with this. For years I've sworn by seagate, but the reviews were so mixed for the latest drives, and with the recent dodgy firmware issues on the 7200.11, I went for the F3 instead ( using this deal http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/486911/samsung-spinpoint-f3-1tb-hard-drive/ ). I got 2 and put them in my Drobo. Seem fine so far (but it has only been 2 days).
