Great price, cheaper than most 1TB internal drives on their own.

Anyone know what drive is inside of this? And any feedback on this brand?

Was tempted by this, but the brand bothers me a little. Going for the Buffalo (£10.00 more) instead http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-Drivestation-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B001ER6CIW/ref=tag_tdp_sa_edpp_i
#9
I was gonna post that up, But decided this was the better deal simply because it offers more gb per buck
#10
Looks bigger than an old betamax!
#11
doesnt look like a misprice to me, seems fairly normal
#12
wheres the thread for a 500gb hard drive priced at £10?
#13
Just bought one of these and I would also like to know if anyone knows what brand of drive are inside these?
#14
where did you find 'lifetime warranty' as stated on the subject line?
#15
I also can't see where it says lifetime warranty either all I can see is the line "The DataStation maxi features fan-less high-grade aluminum housing to provide lifetime durability, optimum cooling and silent operation."

thanx, ordered te buffalo

Hmm searched around but can't find any info and the drive inside. Don't think I could trust it, 1TB is a lot to lose. Ever since losing 2 drives to this fiasco http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deskstar_75GXP i'm not interested in buying another one of their drives ;-)

Yes, because drives from other manufacturers never fail do they ;)
#19
A brand sold by PCW if that helps
#20
Don't think this comes with a lifetime warranty
#21
Its cheap but there have been branded 1tb drives for around £70 already. Personally I dont bother with off the shelf external drives anymore I just dont trust them had too many fail. I bough a dual sata enclosure and a couple of 1tb drives I know and trust. Much better solution and around the same price per tb..
#22
Not a chance this or any other hdd would come with a lifetime warranty. Even the most reliable drive in the world is going to fail at some point, External HDDs are something that you use till they break and then you replace them so if it had a lifetime warranty you would never have to buy a new one (apart from when you need more space)

Trekstor is a German company and uses Hitachi drives....I once had a trekstor media player that to be hinest was pants but the drive was fine, so this should be ok...HOT from me

I have never seen ANY drives with a life time warranty.
Longest warranty I've seen is 5 years.
Even then, warranty never covers data loss, so backing up is a must.
#25
Tried to find out the drives that are inside these but have come up with nothing other than a review from another trekstor product which used Samsung drives, qoute "The DataStation duo w.u. has two Samsung 500GB hard drives inside". Hmmm I'm really hoping for a samsung drive, oh well we shall soon find out.
#26
not the best, but ok for price.................

Its a possible misprice..ive not seen anything that cheap on the net for a 1tb hdd.

as regards to lifetime warranty..apologies..i misread the print...HOWEVER...ive noticed all their product line comes with a lifetime warranty according to some quick searches in yahoo ..maybe someone can verify this?

I very much doubt this is a mis-price, it is only around £10 cheaper than some other 1tb drives so not a massive amount, just becuase another lower spec product from the same company is costs more it is no indication this is a mis-price, happens all the time with computing goods.

As for the lifetime warranty, i believe they might offer them on some of their products that cost a lot less to manufacturer, are much less likely to fail and is likely to have a much shorter active life ie a small memory stick that a customer is likely to upgrade to a bigger one at some point way before you get to its maximum amount of read/writes. But not a chance on a hdd as most people will run them into the ground and then replace them.

Trekstor is a very common brand in Germany, particularly for external drives. You come it across in hyperstores like Mediamarkt, which is like a Curry's, HMV and PCWorld combined.
#30
this is def not a misprice. just a genuine great deal
#31
its an amazing deal considering the cheapest 1TB HDD is around 60 + then delivery so this is killer as its external and free next day delivery
#32
wanted one of these for a while!

cant say no at this price!

Heat and rep!
#33
Good deal if you are counting £ per gb

But i would never buy it simply because i dont know the drive inside.

Been using seagates and samsung-SP's for 5 years now and not one has failed (touch wood)

Had 2x mybooks and they both failed after a year after that i decided never to go the cheap way again. Loosing data isnt worth the money In my opinion.
#34
Computer Bild magazine in Germany reviewed the 750GB version and said it was "good"!
Here's a translation...

Test result Test note: well 2,28
The Trekstor DATA station ranks among the fast candidates.
The housing kept the plate quite cool also in continuous operation: maximally 42 degrees. Besides she worked very quietly (0.5 Sone).
After the drop test the non removable disk was however defective.

+ * High speed * Quiet noise * Small heating up in the enterprise

- * Non removable disk after drop test defectively

Hope this helps:thumbsup:

Voted HOT and ordered one. I havent seen any better for cheaper and if there were better for cheaper then surely this thread would be inundated with links for them?
#37
look like a good solid case too super hot, anyone know what drive is inside?
#38
Not a misprice, just a hot deal.

Shame, I bought 640gigs for £55. Mind you, you haveto draw the line somewhere, I only wanted 500gig which was £50 - I dont even need that much space!

Hot deal - storage is coming down lower and lower!!
#39
Voted hot and ordered.
#40
Cheers just ordered one heat and rep added
