West Coast Mainline only? It doesn't say £4 is the minimum either. Can someone state which journey is best to do? As in buying tickets just for the points not to actually travel.

Thanks - booked some trains for a weekend back home!

£10 admin fee to change the date of a ticket is outrageous. Virgin are a disgrace. This so called birthday sale doesn't in any way make up for their ripoff fares the rest of the time.

London to Birmingham will get you the £4 train.

What is the cheapest just for the points - London to Birmingham - what dates? Thanks a lot.

I got an email but it reads differently:

Virgin Trains West Coast are celebrating 20 brilliant years with a huge birthday seat sale, plus an extra 2,000 bonus points when you book your tickets between 9–14 March 2017.

Why not head to London for just £14, or travel in style in First Class from just £35...With sale prices available for travel between 25 March – 24 August, you can plan a summer full of adventures.

Simply click ‘Book now’ to grab your tickets now… they’ll be gone quicker than you can say ‘Happy Birthday’!

I'm not sure you have to buy a seat in the sale to qualify for the points

I opted for a London to Birmingham child ticket for £2

It would probably work on a non-sale ticket but for the sake of a few pence this ticket will be easier to get the points added on live chat when they don't go on automatically

You only get the points once, and they get awarded on 10th April.

I saw this email and (as I do with most) just deleted it haha.
Have gone back and booked a Manchester - Liverpool train for £3.

Would be nice to get £10 worth of points for a £3 spend, true. If all else fails however, a train to Liverpool for £3 isn't to be sniffed at - cheaper than the petrol to drive there anyway.

I am still waiting for my 1k points from using dhl in december - have emailed customer services reg the same . Going by personal experience and some of the comments here , be prepared to do some chasing up as points don't seem to be automatically added....

Do note that the offer is valid for Virgin trains only. Tickets booked via Virgin website for trains operated by other operators (such as London Midland, etc) do not qualify for the bonus.

Won't work as Liverpool to manchester is not operated by virgin west coast. Book something like a child ticket from Manchester to Stockport and that will count, and be very cheap. You needn't actually use it or get it.

That's still dodgy advice.

Manchester to Stockport is serviced by Northern, Crosscountry, Transpenine and Virgin (and possibly others but that's all the different operators I found on just one page of results)

You have to be sure you are booking on a Virgin service

You can purchase a virgin only single from Manchester to Stockport. Even if you purchased a normal single, however , it would count.

I know but it's important to point out that that route is not exclusively operated by Virgin and so people might still buy the wrong tickets

edit: sorry, are you saying you think they'll reward you for buying tickets on a non-virgin service?
