Not all fit - some are thicker but are still 2.5".

Personally, I'd go for something like the iomega that is regularly on offer from tesco as that way you can use the drive you take from your PS3 in the caddy

Head line grabbing title, plus some people may not realise you can switch out the drives in the PS3.

Seems a decent price though, good find! :)

nice size for ps3, there is no size limit to ps3 hdd just make sure if ure going 1tb the drive is physically the same size as the smaller 2.5" dont know if they are commercially availabe yet

If i bought this would i be able to transfer the games i purchased from the playstation store onto it (wipeout hd etc) and would it be a simple copy to the new hard drive or is it more complicated than that?
Thanks in advance

It's really quite easy, just get an external hard drive / USB stick (depending on how much stuff you have on the PS3) and just copy it over.

All explained in this guide here

I upgraded my PS3 40gb to 320gb and it is sweet, what with it playing DivX and all.
Tell me though, with PlayTV can I put recorded programmes into folders like a TopGear folder otherwise the recorded programme list could be quite difficult to navigate (my freeview HDD box has nine pages of programmes and is a pain).

Cab someone please tell me the exact size of screwdriver required for replacing the hard drive in the ps3?
Cheers

Rotation Speed: 5400 rpm ? bit slow, isn't it? Should be 7200! That's the standard for a while.

Doesnt really make a difference 5400rpm is standard for the ps3. 7200rpm will improve load times by about a couple of seconds but some people have reported heat issues using the 7200rpm.

I am on the lookout for a new HDD for the PS3, and the WD 500GB looks tempting

Can anyone who has bought the WD 320GB or 500GB drives tell me if they come with jumpers so that you can limit the read from 300MBps down to 150MBps

Have heard many stories of after a few months the drives start playing up, but if you limit them to 150MBps they work fine

I put my old samsung 160GB laptop harddrive into my PS3 and it really didn't take well to it.
The main problem was sound cut out in games, the tunes on wipeout would stop and start all the time but the worst was Killzone, it was totally out of sync. The music would stop and start and you would hear conversations that were had about two minutes beforehand, it was really annoying so much so I stopped playing it.

Thanks for the advice.

Videos and Music on my NAS and I have a V+ box for TV so that explains why I don't need it! Oh well, will just have to spend my £££ on games instead.
