Tried to log on to sickipedia on my mobile this morning and received the following message:

The site you are visiting is restricted to over 18's.

To remove the customer protection block all you need to do is confirm your age... blah blah....

You will need to use a visa/mastercard.

To check your age we'll charge £1 to your mobile, but credit your mobile bill £2.50 to refund it (First time only).

You can also pop into your local O2 shop and they can do it from there without any card charges etc... if the £1.50 profit isn't too important that is.
#3
vodafone do the same. you can also pop into the store and get it done for free, you need id though.
#4
Link fixed :)

been trying to sig into my o2 account since last week and the site playing up, cant even use my free txt, Grrrrr ;(
#6
If anyone's topped up by credit card previously, they'll just get charged a £1 but no extra credit.
#7
Sorry you have exceeded the maximum number of attempts to use a credit card for age verification. Please visit our staff at any O2 shop who will be happy to help if you bring proof of age and ID

Is this only for pay monthly customers?
#9
I wonder, do they need to know your age before spamming you with credit and porn ads?

The O2 customers can be benefited with this offer

When does the credit show on our account?
#13
Ahh, o2s comically ridiculous rule where by i have to be over 18 to setup the finance agreement for a mobile contract but then have to prove my age by giving them money. would it not be easier for mum and dad to simply request their little darlings numbers have restrictions rather than presuming we are all 4 year olds? lets face it, the £2.50 credit they give you costs them pennies, this is just another revenue stream. Almost as ridiculous as unlimited internet with strict and well defined limits.

no doubt when they have made some interest on it.

I just tried and Sickipedia loaded up straight away. Have been a customer of O2 for 6 years though.
#15
This I must have done this ages ago.... Have had Sickipedia for a long time now and must have done this before.

Hot though for those that haven't done it.
#16
did these a few months back, never got the £2.50 credit.
#17
You can request it through Customer services we do a Age verification and Parental Control Request it can also be done at an O2 store with your ID as mentioned above, but you get £1 back which you gave initially and £1 on top, don't know were the extra 50pence came from and it shows on your credit card within 3-5 working days and the age retriction comes of with in 3 days

moral of this deal - GO TO A STORE

I've been an o2 customer for years and just got my first smartphone(An OSF lol) so started using the web and it wouldn't let me in to betting sites and I had to complete the age verification online over the phone using a credit card(not debit). This was in Jan and last month I got my £2.50 off my bill. I'm a simplicity customer

How on earth is travelling to an O2 shop for £1 profit better than filling in a few details online for £1.50 profit? Even if they were the same I'd much rather avoid going to an O2 shop to do it.

What I don't understand is that at first it blocked me and then I switched my phone off and then on again and it loaded up the sites. The customer protection block may not be genuine as some of the page it takes you to appears to be fraudlant. I have reported this to o2. I couldn't understand why they would want my bank details to verify my age when anyone who has a pay monthly will already be supplying them with this if they pay by direct debit.
#22
I just rung up and got mine sorted, didn't want to go to s store but I only have a debit card. The woman on the phone just accessed my account (Asked me to confirm my DOB, so if they've got that why should they need age verification!?) and she just did it without any card or payment or anything. Takes 2 days to come though though apparently. Ridiculous

They asked for your bank details? Companies generally want credit card details as you can only get them above the age of 18. (Though you can only get contracts over the age of 18 anyway so it seems a bit pointless!)

Good luck getting it to work. Site is erroring out with this after my first attempt

And ringing 61018 lets you go through the whole process only to then tell you that they're experiencing technical difficulties and to try again later.

Balls up.

i get the following message when trying:

"Sorry we cannot send the verification message at the moment. Please try again later, alternatively our staff at any O2 shop will be happy to help if you bring proof of age and ID"

I did this today and they put my number and dob into the system the Guy had a look at my provisional and said that's you and just as I left I got a text to say I was verified. No charge and no credit. When tried to access sites it went to O2 homepage so rebooted and its all good.
