This is more of a heads up for existing o2 Broadband customers who have passed the initial 12 months contract or nearing it.

It seems o2 run different promotions each month to keep us with them.
I rang up on Saturday and told them I was thinking of leaving and was passed to the retentions department who offered me either:

- 3 Moths free broadband
- £2.50 off for the next 12 months.

The only catch was that you need to sign up to another 12 months which I didn't mind at all as I receive a fantastic service.

If you already get the £2.50 discount for having an o2 Mobile contract or Pay as you go then it would wok out cheaper to get the £2.50 off a month as apose to the free 3 months. Effectively you will be paying £4.84 a month if your on the 8Meg service like me.

I was delighted, less than a fiver a month for an 8Meg download and 1.2 upload with truly unlimited bandwidth seems amazing to me! I hope you agree?

Coming to the end of my first year with O2. Have had no problems since changing from Pipex and will stay with them but I will ring them up to see what they can offer me.
Thanks for the info.

I'm on O2 8mb Access package and the speeds at night are terrible, pings of 120ms+ and downloads of less than 1meg!

I'm not staying with them!

There LLU service is supposed to be ok though but living in a village i don't have that option!
#4
3 months free until 31st October on quidco website too.

If you subtract the £50 cashback and the 3 months free it works out to £16.06 in total for the 12 months if you're an o2 customer.

Exactly the same as me, can only get Access. Called them up Sunday actually and they didn't offer me anything just gave me my MAC code. They claimed that which ever ISP I go to will be the same as it is the Exchange that is causing the slow down not O2 but my previous ISP was fine. I get 4mb in the day but last night I did a speed check and I was only getting 125k. Joke.

My exchange isn't getting upgraded until March 31st 2010 so if I move now I need to go somewhere who will upgrade me to the faster LLU service in March.

Any recommendations?

Be aware if you are an existing customer and cancel your o2 BB, you cannot sign up on the same phone line as a new customer until 6 months after the disconnection date. this is due to BT charging them lots to reconnect or something
#7
Signed up for 2.50 discount about a month ago, service and speed went down like mad! 16 disconnections in 24 hours! Anyway a few phone calls later my speed has come back, but wireless signal keeps dropping now!

↲Good job i didn't try that, i was tempted to when my contract ran out and o2 were doing 100 quid quidco!

Does anyone else get free broadband from O2?
I rang ago to downgade my mobile package to a SIM only contract and they gave me free broadband as well!!
Without even asking.....

O2 is the best.. When i signed up broadband with them 6months got £70off through the quidco deal and I pay £7pm as I am on a contract customer too... well worth it

Sounds like you need to reconfigure your router or buy a new one.
#12
Ring them up Jelly Beans. Had a similar problem (both the speed and dropping out) and o2 first of all sent a bt guy round to fix a problem with the line (was free) and then sent me a new router which solved all the problems. O2 broadband on LLU is really good, get 8meg all the time, sometimes even more than, and am only on the 8meg package!

I am noticing the same problems....broadband connection gets disconnected too often and speed is also reduced. I am in the 11th month of the 12 month contract.

There correct in saying itll be the same no matter which ISP you go with as they'll be piggy backing on the existing exchange

if you live in a village then the reason its quite during the day and busy at night is 90% of people are at work and load is higher so there is nothing that can be done

just go with the cheapest and any that offer ADSL2+ if available

That sucks! did they change your package? Was it fine before? I had issues within the 1st week of signing up as I wanted to the 16Meg but my line can only handle 9meg. Once they synced me up to 9Meg it was fine. No point in paying an extra fiver for 1 meg so I just went for the 8Meg.

My exchange serves 3000 people, i really doubt its an exchange issue!

Its O2 as they are oversubsribed.
#17
Thanks for this. Just phoned today and took the £5 a month offer.

O2's broadband is fantastic, as they use Be Unlimited as the actual provider, and Be are probably the best ADSL2+ provider imo and based on browsing Thinkbroadband forums.

which number did you call?

If wireless signal keeps dropping try changing the channel. It worked for me.
So many things interfere on certain channels. Baby monitors are one of the worst offenders.

I'm with them too & havent had problems, apart from this weekend when I couldnt connect, rang their customer services, & they were so helpful, tested line, tested speed, switched me over to a better connection. sometimes these cheap deals are let down by customer services (talktalk for example!!) you can also order a free o2 sim I think to claim the reduced monthly charge
#23
Just did this as well - thanks for the info! £4.84 per month can't be beat! Effectively saved me £30 over the next 12 months.

O2 are now traffic shaping though ... so effectively I'm stuck with them for 12 months even if their service becomes rubbish... it's been good so far though.

No worries guys, glad to help and give something back to the HUKD community!

If your exchange is not LLU then you are on a BT service O2 buys wholsale from them.
BT are crap, Check your exchange here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/
& get a better ISP.

Folk should expect to wait about 15 mins now - at about 3 PM.
#27
Renewed my contract with them yesterday and got the next 3 months free.

Happy with that as it's a cracking service and dirt cheap as well.

Any less and I would feel I am taking the ****! lol

Similar here :-( Was good when I first signed up a year ago but it has slowly got worse and worse. My speeds are still good but my ping is just terrible and I often can't stream live video.

I'm pretty sure my exchange is congested though and i'm sure O2 is oversubscribed!

This sounds like a good deal though, what are people saying when they ring up?
Would look daft if they just said ok well bye then :p

I live in a village and am on the Access Package and i get 7.6mbps d/l speeds day and night. their fantastic. 1000% better than tiscali! Tiscali said its the exchange and not them, but they lied and i knew it, cos they were capping my Broadband. Both of the ISP's are on the same exchange too....
#31
"with truly unlimited bandwidth"

This is no longer the case

I got a letter from O2 the other day saying they are changing their policy to "fair usage" which also involes p2p capping, bad news for all you file sharers out there "you know who you are:whistling:"
http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/ofcom.jsp

Basicaly they cant cope with the traffic between 8-11pm

been with O2 for 8 months now on access and the speeds between 5-11pm are just plain awfull, i have not paid my Bill for over 5 months now but my connection is still live  although i do get a reminder every so often to pay it

i was told the congestion issue would be cleared up ages ago which it never was, i WILL pay o2 eventually but they definitely will not be getting the full amount

I just asked if my contract was up and if I could leave... I was then told yes and was told about the procedures to migrate away and was then asked if I wanted to talk to retentions about any offers they have. When I passed through the person I spoke to told me about the current offers and whether or not I would be interested. She also told me to ring next year to see what offers they have. Pretty open about it all. No need to persuade them or anything unlike Tiscali who were were like trying to get blood from a stone!

From reading on the o2 Forums (http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=12) it seems this is true for access customers, not LLU. Correct me if Im wrong.

Theyv'e always had a fair usage policy but have never implemented it (On LLU that is)

Thats very unusual to get full speed on access to be fair.

I can't wait for the traffic management to kick in, i need a good ping for modern warfare 2!!

Yes this announcement is not for LLU customers. They may introduce this in future however

You have to be careful with stuff like that as if there turns out to be nothing wrong with the line, BT will charge you about £123 for the pleasure.

Get £50 cashback from quidco and the 3 months free hope they are good
#38
Rang them after 3pm today, got through quickly and put through the retention team, offered me 2.50 off p/m or 3 months free. I wanted the premium upto 16mb package for the same I was paying of £7.29, they agreed. If it doesnt reach a quoted minimum I will stay on 8mb for fiver a minth.

Is it possible to ask for this if you are still under contract and simply sign a new 12 month contract and get 3 months free? I wouldn't mind renewing if I got 3 months free!
