Only cheap mature/extra will have too much salt. Get a good cheese and it won't.

1. I did not know that
2. What is a good quality cheese? Wyke farms? Seriously? shops own?

I know I could probably look on the back of the prepacked stuff, but what about the deli counter?

I'd like to know that too,as I love the extra strong/mature cheese.

Generally most of the ones produced on a large scale will contain the most salt.

The deli counter is probably the best place to try as there will likely be locally made cheeses there that won't have the same amount of salt added. A bit of trial and error might be worthwhile as you can buy from the deli counter in small amounts, you should be able to identify the more salty ones if you taste them together.

Don't get me wrong here I'm not trying to be snobby about this, I buy the brand/supermarket varieties 90% of the time as I'm not worried about the salt content. :)

Especially when it comes in a 1Kg block.

Don't be surprised however, if your kid ends up looking like one.
