Heat added for the price, but a better double pack would have been Superman + Superman II.

And yet the old one will look no better in Bluray than it did on DVD and the new one will be improve by the newer format.

It all depends on how they have mastered teh first movie, if they've done it to a decent degree, it will look better on blu ray.

I doubt they'll have touched it since the DVD clean up. You'll get no better picture than playing the DVD on a Bluray player with 1080 upscaling. It's not going to be worth the money of a further clean up. It's not like people are going to be buying this in the millions.

A strange box set since Returns follows II, not I, and apparently Returns made a fairly poor transmission to Blu ray despite being filmed with state of the art digital camcorders.

Not a cold price, but I wouldn't bother.

I don't know what they are using as a master for the blu ray boxset, but there is no reason the transfer from source, say from the original film, down to 1080p won't look much better than the standard definition DVD. Of course companies do it on the cheap or just make a hash of it (Gladiator), but done properly from a good source, the blu ray looks much better than DVD or upscaled DVD, regradless of a film being 3 or 30 years old.

The official prequel comic book for Superman Returns is available in The Works for £1.99 atm. (Should be 6 or 7 quid I think).

Blu Ray review seems decent enough, first line mentioning the PQ is
"With its VC-1 encode at 1080p, the resolution of this Blu-ray is far superior to even the most recent DVD version"

No matter how great the technology, you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, they say. Where the remake is concerned, it isn't even up to DOGS ear level.
The first is a good film. BluRay tech doesn't alter whether a film is good or not.

It's good to hear they have made a decent effort for the blu ray. As mentioned, it doesn't matter if a movie is old, it's the transfer to blu ray / DVD that greatly effects things. Superman would get a decenty budget to do this, compared to, say, Police Academy 16's transfer being done by the work experience kid :)

Didn't realise it was Superman and Returns,

I was hoping for Superman and Superman 2

VERY amused by those who seem to think that bluray will improve acting, directing and storyline ! X)

I have a mate who saw Inception on DVD, couldn't understand it at all, but wathced it again on blu ray in case it made it better for him to understand. It didn't unsurprisingly.
