I know it has been posted before over 2 weeks ago but I thought it would be good to remind you all about this as it's starting this week! Original poster marko4ever24, so credit to him.
On Monday 2 February 2009 The Sun newspaper in partnership with train companies will launch The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer. This will be the first national ticket promotion to be offered since 2002.
The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer provides readers the opportunity to buy one Adult rail ticket and take another person (adult or child) with them for free.
2FOR1 rail offer tickets can only be purchased online from www.thesun.co.uk/2FOR1railoffer. 2FOR1 rail offer tickets must NOT be sold at stations or through any other retail outlet.
To obtain the 2FOR1 rail offer Sun readers need to collect any four of six individual tokens printed in The Sun between Monday 2 February and Saturday 7 February.
Each day a three character pin code will be printed on the token and customers must enter four different pin codes to obtain the 2FOR1 discount on the website.
The 2FOR1 rail offer is ONLY available on Adult tickets. Each 2FOR1 ticket will show a 50% discount on the Adult fare.
Where one Adult + one Child are travelling together, the 2FOR1 rail offer will be available. In this case the Adult ticket will be issued at 50% discount and the Child ticket will be issued at the normal Child rate.
A minimum of two and a maximum of eight people can travel together with one set of four 2FOR1 rail tokens. One set of four tokens can only be used once for a Single or Return journey. All customers that make up the group must travel together on the same train service/s.
2FOR1 rail offer tickets will be clearly identified with 2FOR1 printed on the ticket.
All 2FOR1 rail offer tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-EXCHANGEABLE. Once the journey is booked, NO changes can be made, no matter what type of ticket is held. Note: Seat reservations are compulsory for Advance fares only.
All other rail ticket restrictions and terms and conditions will apply.
Booking Period
2FOR1 rail offer tickets can be booked between 5 February and 5 March 2009 inclusive. All tickets must be booked at least seven days in advance of travel.
Travel Period
All outward travel must be completed between 12 February and 5 April 2009 inclusive. Tickets with a return validity of one month may be valid for travel until 4 May 2009.
Ticket Types
The 2FOR1 rail offer applies to a range of ticket types including Advance, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak. Anytime fares are included for journeys where no Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak fares exist. Day Travelcards are excluded from the 2FOR1 rail offer. All 2FOR1 rail offer tickets are subject to availability.
Generally the 2FOR1 rail offer will apply to Standard tickets, although the 2FOR1 rail offer may also be available for First Class travel on some journeys (see Appendix A).
Each train company has identified what tickets should be available for the 2FOR1 rail offer. A full list of tickets being offered for the promotion is provided in Appendix A.

Looks like they've thought of that trick already - You have to take the 4 differently numbered tokens with you and make them available for inspection along with your tickets.
The terms say that you'll have to pay the full single fare if you can't provide proof of the tokens.....

It would help if you told us where your original thread was.
I just worked out my daily journey stop to stop and its about a tenner more expensive to do it that way.
edit: found it - http://hotukdeals.com/item/318562/the-sun-2for1-rail-offer/?p=4073253#post4073253 - I thought you meant your thread discussed the stop to stop thing.

Also if you have children it is well worth getting this family railcard for £18. Had a weekend trip from Swansea to London recently for under £50 - that's 2 adults & 2 kids

www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com is better. It also has the best fare finder, there is no booking fee and free postage.
Ironic that this starts on the day virtually every train has been cancelled in my area!

Remember you need the token to validate the ticket.
Not having much luck finding a ticket that's useful, all I'm getting are advanced tickets when I need an Off Peak return.
