"Just think of all those poor little chickens, last week they were wandering around, well maybe not, theyd have been kept in the dark squashed up together in some limited space and now they are a Garlic Kiev!! "

I think the only humane thing is to buy these kievs and get them eaten. Better than the above lol

Delicious.

I think by now, we all know what goes into our burgers, kievs, etc and 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!' Sure, it's nice to buy organic or free range but some of us aren't that privileged enough to buy that all the time.
#11
Are these from chicken meat raised in Paraguay!
..if so how the heck do they do it at this price?

Hmmmm!?
Great price, dubious quality, therefore contentious even at this price!
#12
I also recommend watching that as posted by androo................if any meat meal that includes mrm.....mechanically recovered meat........include me out..............its just bone juice, skin, connective tissue, feet, head, brain added to whatever meat they find behind the conveyor belt at the end of the shift...............and i am no veggie but that programme made me squirm..........

I love home cooked food, don't usually buy these kind of stuff, but still hot for the price.
#14
ditto antenna... ain't pure chicken as I said.

You better off making your own as its sooo easy and you get better quality as well.
#15
I love the taste... but it's all fake.

I'm trying to stay away from processed foods after eating them for 25 years... but it's probably already too late!
#16
Couldnt find in our local store. Is this nationwide.
#17
bought these the last time they were on offer at this price. They are horrid, you get what you pay for in this case. Tried one pack the other two ended up as dog food. :x

Wonder how much nutritional value this has? Don't be lazy. Make your own from proper chicken fillets.

why, just because it isn't chicken breast meat doesn't mean its bad for you or cann harm you.
#26
You wouldnt give a chicken a blow job.

So why are you letting this near your mouth?
#27
Great deal but wouldn't eat one myself
#28
Skin, fat, minced eyes and brain, mixed with chemicals and filled with garlic butter.

No thanks.

Come on play fair - there are people that simply either don't have the budget or simply don't give a toss what they shovel down their children's throats - this is a bargain if you you're one of the above.

The programme actually struggled to make something of it. The supermarket ones turned out quite well. It was those random bottom junk from Superstores that they had to hunt down.

ASDA Garlic chicken kievs 2s

Chopped and Shaped Chicken with added water (57%) [Chicken (89%), Water, Salt] , Seasoned Breadcrumb Coating (18%) [Wheat Flour, Wheat Gluten, Yeast, Sugar, Yeast Extract, Salt, Dextrose , Colour (Paprika Extract), Sage, White Pepper] , Garlic Butter (11%) [Unsalted Butter, Roast Garlic Purée (4.95), Garlic Purée (4.8%), Parsley, Salt, Lemon Juice, White Pepper] , Vegetable Oil

So its only 57% chicken, the rest of the ingredients seem fine to me.

57% chicken meat or their bones and s**t forced through a mincer?

If you wanna eat such crap then feel free.I personally wouldn't touch that garbage.
#32
Saw these in my local Asda (Sheffield),the only reason they were 50p is they had a 'whoops' reduced sticker on..
chopped and shaped chicken meat ,=mush, vile stuff.
#33
I had some last night. Still alive to tell the tale.

The wife seemed repulsed that it was reformed chicken, but aren't these Kiev's always mode of that?
#34
Wonder why this isn't showing on mySupermarket :?

As Far as im aware 57% chicken means actual Chicken, they won't be putting bones and stuff in it, they wont use the term chicken they would use some other fancy term which I don't see. In that programme he made a 10% chicken kiev where the remaining other % was the crap. Chicken skin aint so bad, you get that with fresh chicken anyway.

Well Im content with eating it, I guess my threshold for what I eat is not as rigorous. I do understand with the extremely cheap stuff but if one is going to be incredibly picky you may as well be Vegetarian, I have not had these but I've had the Sainsburys equivalent and they taste fine.

No, it's 57% "Chopped and Shaped Chicken with added water" which, according to the ingridients, is 89% chicken.

This means that the final percentage of chicken is just over 50%. I'm not bothered if people eat this or not, but I wanted it to be clear how much actual chicken there is in this product.

That's the key point Niz. The assumption is that chicken = meat, and by that we mean the flesh from the bird.

However in food labelling terms "chicken" can contain skin, fat, offal (organs like the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, brain, eyes, etc) and connective tissue.

On it's own it wouldn't taste very nice at all but the added fat, high levels of salt and other flavourings make it acceptable to some people.
#38
I ate these when they were £2, so got no probs eating them at 50p. Even the Tesco Finest kievs are only 67% chicken so its not like its that much difference. But I guess I don't care about my body, and have no taste buds.

Or maybe I appreciate the good meals more because I'm not a ponce every day, the duck last night was great :D
#39
In amongst all the arguing about how much chicken is in Kievs can anyone answer if the other flavours are in this deal?
