Cost us 90 quid to take SWMBO up for half an hour (and it was half an hour in the air) from Hurn, so 99 quid for an hour in the air sounds good value to me.

As an ex-instructor I can tell you its cheap. Even solo hire, as somebody said, is about £120 nowadays and you would probably have a landing fee on top of that. If you break it down, now i'm taking a few things into account here so don't shoot me down
    1) Instructors time say £20 an hour but I didn't get paid for briefings
    2) Maintenance £10
    3) Fuel burn is somewhere between 20-25 litres an hour for a light aircraft at about £2 a litre for Avgas £40
    4) Landing fee, if they have to pay one can range from £7-£20
    5) Engine fund, for commercial flying the engine probably has with extensions 2250h on it and thats flight time, an hour flight will be 50 mins airborne 10 mins taxi, and a new engine can range from £15k-£25k so we will say £10
    6) other odds and ends like oil, clubhouse upkeep, ops staff etc.

So all in all you can see that there isn't much, if any profit being made out of the £99, especially when you add in mighty deals cut.

hopefully 1 lesson should be enough, as I don't need to know how to land

There's nothing cheap about it all. For those that hold pilot licences (myself included), it is essential to fly regularly to keep current and if you can save a few pounds in the process, then why not go for it? In the UK, where aircraft hire charges are steep, fuel is extortionate and where even landing fees can cost upwards of £10 a time, this all-inclusive fee is super value.

This is cheeky, it's a 1 hour experience listed as a 2 hour.

Most 1 hour flying experiences come with an hours briefing beforehand, and most 1 hour experiences at places like red letter days are not much more than £100

Thus this deal / offer / promotion is misleading.

    Voted cold.

I too find it a little misleading when these voucher websites make a deal sound better than it is but this is still a very good deal. The majority of flying schools will charge for an instructor's time when in the classroom. Whilst not quite on par with the cost of hiring an aircraft, the pre-flight briefing still has some value - and not only monetary.

Absolutely, I have 12 months from April this year to do 12hrs to revalidate my license. I am pretty broke at the moment having just moved to London and looking at ways to cost effectively get the 12hrs in. Most flying clubs down here are pricey to join, and add £15-20 landing fee on top of the hire rate.

If I can do a couple of hours at £99 that would certainly help ease the blow. It may be cheapskating buts needs must. I would be gutted if the license lapsed.
