Can a PPL holder buy this? I need to ...... maintain my license and this is a cheap way to do it!

Presumably you know more than the average punter on here and can make some enquiries yourself about your PPL. Cheapskate springs to mind.....(_;) And, is it not licence?

No shame in being a cheapskate. We're all cheapskate aren't we, otherwise we wouldn't be on this site!

Just checked up on this, still available for another 3-4 days.

SCAM? Ordered and got a voucher code. No confirmation that payment was accepted or confirmed. Rang the company to give the voucher code to as per the email. They said they don't know much and that their systems are down and there is a problem with the pilot (not a specific flight centre - this is the booking centre). Tried to contact Mighty Deals - no response as yet. Tried to call the booking centre again today - "no-one is available to take your call. no message can be left".
Starting to sound like a scam...

I would hang in there. Flying clubs can have small staff numbers, maybe even just the pilots, so if they are flying then it may go to voicemail.

I have had a google around and I see Groupon also did this deal with Hinton so it is not as if Mighty Deals and Hinton Flight Training are ghost companies set up to defraud you.

Here is a post on Pprune re Hinton Flight Training and posts are positive (Pprune is a pilot forum):
    http://www.pprune.org/private-flying/474006-hinton-pilot-flight-training.html

Also I checked out the registration for G-DIAT, the PA28, and it shows on G-INFO (the CAA aircraft database) as registered to Hinton Flight Training:

    http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=detailnosummary&fullregmark=DIAT

So it seems they are a bit sloppy answering calls or returning messages but it all seems legit. Of course if they have gone bust then the above would mean nothing and you would have to try a chargeback from your card company. Also my understanding is that companies like Groupon etc don't pay the company their share of the fee until you have completed the experience so if the company went bust Mighty Deals should do the decent thing and just issue you a refund.

Thanks for all the info on the companies, very kind of you to post in such detail.

WARNING! DO NOT BUY THIS DEAL LIKE I DID.

Finally managed to get through to the booking centre. They confirmed they won't be booking for a week and even then may only get flights from Hinton, not the other bases. They confirmed have problems with their MD at the flight company and referred me to Mightydeals.com for a refund, so sounds like they are going bust. Mighty Deals have no phone number except the automated menu. They have not responded to my query. I have seen other websites referring to them (Mighty Deals) being a scam (moneysavingexpert forums). Next step, fraud office at my bank.

Urgh, really sorry to hear this and thanks for the heads up!! I was going to buy a voucher later this afternoon. Let us know how you get on.

Well, this is kind of sorted now. Mighty Deals did respond in the end and had contacted Hintons Director. Completely different story they were told to what I was told by the girl who answered the phone twice to me. Bookings are fine, only problems were with computers and difficulties with snow, there were all the airbases to fly from available, not just one. This is absolutely not the message I was getting from them. I rang the same number to clarify this was right. The director guy that Mighty Deals had spoken to answered the phone as the girl I spoke to had gone home sick, he was happy to book me a flight this weekend if I wanted. The girl had previously said no flight, no computers, maybe not ever, and that the only airbase that was avaiable was Hintons nr Northampton. Unfortunately the director guy seemed to keep telling me my nearest base to Coventry was Northampton, not Coventry as advertised and as Mighty Deals confirmed was available. I am not sure to this day whether there is more than one flight location, as I did not want to further aggravate the (slightly evasive) response I was getting, since I am not really concerned as it isn't that far (especially if you have a plane I guess).

I was a little concerned about all this but unfortunately the chap seemed unconcerned that his staff were turning people away like that. Oh well, its not my company :)
Hopefully the flight goes better than the booking :)

What about anyone else that has booked it? Little bit worrying as I was all ready to go for this
    aerotec
Anyone managed to get flying yet?

Hi there, just to let people know I to purchased a voucher from mighty deals and have had a similar experience,no correspondence from them, not answering emails ect
Think I've been had for £175
My advice would be to stay well clear of Mighty Deals as there a totally uprofessional outfit
Any company that cannot be reached by phone should ring alarm bells.Never have I had such poor service in all my years of buying goods from the net
DO NOT USE MIGHTY DEALS THEY ARE AT BEST EXTREMELY INCOMPETENT OR JUST FRAUDSTERS.
Find out at your own peril.
    aerotec
Sorry to hear that. Was the voucher for this 1hr flight experience? Have you tried to contact Hinton Flight Training? If you bought on your credit card then just make a charge back through your credit card company and you should get the money back.

I had a problem with this in that they booked me in for a weekend flight but then said they had overbooked and wouldn't be able to do a weekend until June, by which time I would be out of the country! I told Mighty Deals I wanted a refund and they refunded it within a few days so they were pretty good for that.

I bought this deal (January 2012) for my husband's birthday. He has booked it for 2 weeks time but I see it is not with Hinton but with Formby microlight.

Does this mean he is going in a microlight as opposed to a 2 seater light aircraft. I am confused or have we been conned?

Has anyone else used their deal and was all ok?
    aerotec
A microlight could be either the one which has the pod and hangs under the hang gliding style wing or it could be a more traditional looking aircraft that operates under the microlight rules. Either are a great fun experience so he should enjoy it anyway. Just make sure you get the full 1hr flying that this voucher was for and not a 20 minute quicky flight. In 1hr he should have time to go to a general handling area and learn to turn the aircraft and do some climb and descent manouvres. This will give him a better feel for it than the 20 minute "sight seeing" quickies that don't let you get much hands on time.
