Neither do XBox Live Silver members. You have the PSN equivalent. PSN Plus members pay just like XBox Live Gold members. You should know that both networks charge for the premium membership, and nothing for the standard membership. If you don't, then you're just a sucker for Sony marketing.

Except of course, you can play online with PSN, and can only watch with XBox silver AFAIK - correct me if I'm wrong!

Voted hot regardless - cracking deal for Gold!

Except free PSN users pay nothing for their online play. That is the big difference.

I'm not an Xbox Live Gold member and I think that £30 a year is quite excessive.
Yes if you have a very minimal job and all you do is play games on your Xbox then it is not a lot of money, but some people do have a job and enjoy a variety of consoles and games that are both offline and offline. In those cases charging £30 for a few hours of entertainment in addition to all the costs that you make buying games and hardware is quite steep.

To be honest I think that this is a concern for a lot of potential Xbox owners. The amount of people that actually do use Xbox Live gold is surprisingly minimal. Over half the Xbox 360 owners do not even have an Xbox Live Silver account, let alone an Xbox Live gold.

Agree here, which is why when the £2 for 2 months offer comes up I take advantage. I only manage an hour or two a week on my xbox so for me the full subscription cost isn't justifiable.

Thanks for posting OP.

Haven't had a chance to check my dash, but heat added regardless.
With all the great deals on gold lately I've got nearly 2 years on my account - and I'll be happy to add another 2 months for £2 if the offer's there :D
Seems to be around £1 a month on a fairly regular basis lately!

What a load of tosh.

It works out a 9 pence per day, are you really that tight? Xbox live is FAR superior as an experience to PSN. And that was before the 2 month outage! It's your loss.

Might not be, but it's still better than the figures Talicus quoted with "Over half the Xbox 360 owners do not even have an Xbox Live Silver account"

If I had to estimate I'd say it's probably 3/4 people have Gold, giving around 22.5 million members, nearly half of all Xbox owners.

voted HOT, as fandyboy has said and i have to agree Live is a much better service than PSN.

i have both consoles so im alowed to give my opinion :)
#28
Is this offer only on Silver account dashboards?

Can't see it on mine, which is already gold.
#29
Gotta say I am an xbox fan (but not a fanboy) and I think the 30-35 quid a year I have paid in the last 5 odd years is well worth the money. Remember the days when you had to buy magazines for the latest demos etc etc. After owning a PS3 for about a month I sold it as enjoyed the live experience of the xbox way more - just personal preferance but I think you get what you pay for - and of course a PS3 is more expensive to start with (que some clever dick who will undoubtably break down the costs of buying an xbox and live and a bluray player etc etc etc to prove this wrong....)

Great deal on this xbox live deal though - voted hot

The "dashboard" is the stuff you see on the xbox 360 when you're not playing a game/disk. Loads of menus, offers, and options, etc. You can't access it on your pc.

For those of you who can't see the offer on your dash and don't usually see any similar offers there, check your settings. I recently took one of these offers up for one of the kids, but couldn't see it on the dash. Changed some setting (can't remember where exactly - sorry) from "DON'T show me offers" to "DO show me offers" and it was then on her dashboard. (The wording there is approximate)

There is no PSN Equivalent. PSN Plus gives you extra value in terms of free games, themes, avatars, discounts, beta access, etc. that the normal members do not get. But Xbox Live Silver is taking away features which Gold members have to pay for to use, and the key one of being able to play games online. Whereas on the PS3 there is no difference in user experience on the PSN between Plus and non-Plus members in terms of features

Im sorry, but this is just total nonsense.

What you are saying is there is no difference between PSN "silver" and PSN "Gold" EXCEPT for the ability to do more things etc.......

So, in reality, that means there actually IS a difference between the two.

Listen, I can tell you for a FACT. XBOX Live Gold @ 25 quid a year is FAR superior to any flavour the PSN network comes in.

The PSN Network is extremely limited in its functions for instance.

in 2006 on xbox live, I could "start a party" invite my friends in, sit at dashboard and decide what game to play. We could all then load the game (whilst still chatting) and be taken directly to the multiplayer menu as a group.

The last time I checked to do this with PSN you had to "create a chat room" and invite everyone in to it. Once there if you left the chat room you lost communications meaning that during the "load the game process" you couldnt talk to anyone. On top of this you are a single gamer going into a game, you then need to find everyone from your party again and invite them all back into the game lobby. Add this to the FACT that every single game has different multiplayer components, this makes for a dreadful, disjointed, and fundamentally BROKEN multiplayer experience.

Now, setting the whole PSN debacle aside, Does anyone know how many system updates sony has put out from console launch till now...... I honestly cant remember. I lost count within year one where there was an update almost every couple of days...... This in itself isnt a bad thing, but when the update is 300 meg, takes hours to download AND install is downright crap. Not to mention the **** joypad that hasnt been update since inception 17 years ago (except for the thumb sticks and triggers which are, made of the wrong material, incorrectly designed and in the wrong **** place......)

I own both console by the way and use them as follows

PS3 - Killzone, bluray, 3d bluray, and media streamer.

xbox - online gaming.

I would happily pay 30 quid a YEAR to play online with PS3 provided they standardised and improved the system (aka make it like xbox live) and fixed the **** joypad (aka made it like a controller s)
#38
lol.
This happens in every single Xbox Live thread, I find it hilarious as I own both consoles, and quite frankly, Live is a lot better.

If you don't want to pay £30 a year for Gold membership then nothing's stopping you from going and buying a PS3.

Also at poster above, if it takes you hours to download a 300MB file then you really need to get your connection looked at :)

Always get the PSN fanboyz on this thread. If people are happy to pay for XBL or even PSN+ then what's your problem? It's our choice and we love the perks and stable service we get with XBL, so kindly buzz off. bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

P.S I can't see this deal, so maybe it's for silver members only.

does anyone know the number to ring to turn off the subscription autorenewal please?
