That's pretty cool, I like the idea of smoking on a cruise ship with the wind blowing in my face...
Shame I'm nowhere near Newcastle :x

I like the idea of this but when I see Dinner Buffet at £19.99 per person and breakfast at £8.99 it puts me off a bit. I think they might be subsidising their cheap prices in other ways!

Any ideas how much beer is?

5 hours in Amsterdam!! Whats the point?
#10
try this site, buy one get one free on most mini cruises
#11
ive been on this trip many of times now and its so expensive when you get onboard for the drinks

my advice is to buy from the duty free shop and take your drinks into the bar but you need to buy a drink from bar first to get glass

food is expensive so when you in holland just before you leave get some food

5 hours is ok in this weather if you like looking around the place

isn' t this trip a bit of a vomit comet!

Been on this trip a few times, and I can highly recommend it... If you'd rather avoid spending the trip with dozens of Stag/Hen party's avoid leaving on a Friday. Other than that, it can't be faulted for the money it cost IMO. - whilst its certainly not the QM2, it does what it says on the tin.....

Went on this 2 years ago when it was on offer and its great if youve never been to Amsterdam and u wanna get there on the cheap. When we went the sea was so rough they had to close the bar, restaurants and shop...so it was a tad boring spending 12 hours throwing up in your room. But we got to see a place we had never been before for very cheap so couldn't complain. Cabins are basic and old...shower barely ran warm. Food and drinks coming back were extortionate......wouldn't go again, but if the weather is ok and you don't mind putting up with 24 hours on boat for about 4 hours free time in Amsterdam then this might be for you.

You could smoke a few doobies! :w00t:
#16
Could smoke a few dozen doobies if you spent the £40 here ;)
#17
Can't believe that anyone would think this is a deal, not based on the price - which is cheap to get there and back. . . .but if you're that desparate you can get a coach there for £30 return....and stay there to your hearts content?! Within reason of course!

Going from Newcastle?! 5 hours enought to see Amsterdam?? Who are they kidding!

im going october 27-29th an im paying £16 a night for accomodation, £50 return flight and free trip to and from the airport. so for £82 you could get 3 days and 2nights (With proper sleep) and not waste pretty much 2 full days just sitting on a boat with real expensive food and drink. I think for that reason this is not a deal as you cannot properly explore amsterdam in 5 hours and as someone has already pointed out you can get more smoke in your own country for cheaper than you could going to amsterdam and back just to have a few joints. Voted cold from me

I think the suitability of this trip depends on whether you see it as 'putting up with' the time on the boat. If you enjoy the journey as well as the destination, then this is a nice trip. If your reason for going is just to visit amsterdam, then there are likely better alternatives.
#20
£39.50 not £34.50 surely?
#21
Cold - this is more than DFDS site direct (as OP has misquoted at £34.50 rather than £39.50 - or they have sold out!).

£16 a night? Going to get a really grotty hostel for that kind of money lol. I'm going next week, accomodation ain't cheap if you want a half decent place near the station/red lights. But yeah agree that it works out better value getting a flight over there. The place is much better by night anyway :-D

Just noticed that myself...its the same price on DFDS' website (£79pp BOGOF), but DFDS have the advantage of options to upgrade cabin to seaview or prebook meals at a discount. More dates available on DFDS website as well (although the extra dates are slughtly more expensive..I think lastminute just show the very cheapest ones).

6% quidco cashback for DFDS instead of 5% for lastminute.com holiday bookings

Title needs changing to reflect correct price.

Who can you get coach for £30 with? That would be an amazing deal!

This trip is great, done it twice and loved it. I swear on the second trip they put something else in the space cake i had... that was a trip in its self :D
#26
mmm! 2 nights on the stormy North Sea and about 4 hours in Amsterdam - oh, that's why it's £34.50pp :)

And it'll cost you more than that to eat on the boat - even the breakfast was about £15 the last time I went, although it was pretty good.

Some people might not be quite as impartial to UK soap bar and glass weed though. ;-)

I've been the Dam 8 times. You can get a return on Easy Jet for £40-£50 if you book 4 or 5 months in advance. You can get the Delta or similar Hotel on the Damrak for £20-30 per person. I also stayed once in a hostel round the corner from the Leidseplein and it was spotlessly clean. Went in a group of six that time and we had our own room. Only difference between that and a hotel was the room had no tv and bunk beds instead of normal ones. Happy days!
#29
Can you please put Newcastle in the topic or nearer the top as I read all that for nothing! good deal tho

Does anyone know if Amsterdam port sells cheap cigs ? Just come back from an Easycruise from Greece and paid around £13 a sleeve in ports there. Loads cheaper than airport duty frees.

no, don't think they sold cancer sticks in the port. From what I remember there wasn't much in the port at all.

Not sure about the ferry port but the airport sells them for about £30 for 200. So not that cheap really. I think it's actually cheaper to buy them in newsagents in Amsterdam.
#36
Have been on 2 of these trips, ok and good laugh for 1st timers but flying is much better if you are interested in actually spending time in Amsterdam.

The Flying Pig Hostel is excellent and cheap, would defo recommend.

Regarding cheap cigarettes, the women on the ferry told us that we could buy as many tabs as we wanted. Although when 9 of us tried to pass through customs with 55,000 between us we were stopped, our bags searched and questioned, the people who were not working (did not have regular income) had the tabs taken off them in case they had been paid to go over on a tab smuggling run.

PS If you are looking for loose women, smoking dope and loads of beers you should get the North Shields to South Sheilds ferry when you return into Newcastle !!!!

I think its a bit of a treck to the airport from the ferry port...you've only got about 5 hours in Amsterdam so spending an hour of that getting to the airport for cheap fags is madness.

5 hours is no time in the dam

I'm actually staying in one of the nicest Hostels in Amsterdam (the flying pig) that is in the centre of amsterdam, 1 minute away from the red light district. :whistling:
