46.40 each is a good price, about £3 cheaper each than anywhere else maybe?
edit: actually drive on its own at scan is 48.99 so only £2.60 saving each
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/15tb-samsung-hd154ui-ecogreen-f2-dt-sata-3gb-s-32mb-cache-89-ms-ncq
or £48.16 for one also in Today only!

not sure what they mean by "NOT designed to be used in Desktop" exactly?

edit: some talk of very bad access times a year ago, not sure if still true?

Basically, they're not ideal for booting (OS) drives as the access speed is slightly slower, they are however, fine for NAS or Storage.

mental! these disks are such good value. my home network now has 6gb of space on it. will take me forever to transfer all my stuff onto it.

hot as hell :) (and to those who say they are slow, ok, they are not that fast but they are not terrible either)

Excellent price, these 1.5TB drives really are the sweetspot for storage at the moment.

Brilliant price... yes they are not good for use as main drive but very good for storage.

I bought this from Scan a month ago. Question for other's who have this drive.

Anyone else notice a slight weird noise on their drive? It's like a salt shake noise. When i first turn my computer on (doesn't happen on reboot, just on/off), it makes the noise for 10 seconds then doesn't make the noise for a while. After that probably hourly or more, it makes the noise again for 3 or 4 seconds. Like a chhh chhh chhh sound.

My drive is set up as a secondary media drive so the noise appears even when nothing is being accessed on the drive, i have checked this with FileMon. I have run the Diagnostics test and it passed everything 100%.

Anyone else notice this noise on their drive? It's like the arm/head inside is moving, but it's happening randomly and it's moving quite a distance since it's making noise i can hear. I have a Seagate, Hitachi and WD and none of them make this random sound? Although non of them are 1.5tb, two are 1tb and one is 320gb (getting rid of two soon once i transfer operating system over to the 1tb).

I have the non-JP1 version of this model which i guess is better and the version that they were selling last month.

Search the web regarding Samsung failures, I have seen reports of F3/F4s having issues but F2s are fine. There is also a utility you can use to check.

this is an old drive (early 09 i think) not that that's necessarily bad - 3 x 500GB platters

£52 ish at amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Spinpoint-EcoGreen-3-5-Inch-Warranty/dp/B002AL7TC4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1287782521&sr=8-2

i'll probably go for this, seems to have good compatibility (no weird 4k block size like WD drives).

only question marks are over access times and reliability, but the latter is always iffy.

Samsung Diagnostics esTools? I used that and it came back 100% ok. The drives working flawlessly and the noise isn't loud, but thought i'd just check with anyone else who has this drive.

So.....anyone else have this drive?
