Retail Box Version

The Deskstar 7K2000 hard drive range delivers upto a colossal two terabytes of storage capacity and 7200 RPM performance in a standard 3.5-inch form factor. The overall capacity is dependant on which version is purchased as these models are available to purchase in a range of capacities.

Now in its fourth-generation, the 7K2000 is based on a robust mechanical design that continues to set the industry standard for quality and reliability.

Through a patented ramp load/unload design, data heads are moved to a ramp away from the disk where they rest during periods of inactivity. This greatly minimizes the risk of shock damage by eliminating direct contact between the heads and disks, reducing wear and heat while improving overall drive reliability and power efficiency. The Deskstar 7K2000 also incorporates thermal fly-height control (TFC) technology which uses an integrated heating element to precisely maintain a constant fly-height throughout read and write operations to enhance overall data integrity, drive performance and reliability. The 7K2000 features industry-standard native 512-byte sector formatting, ensuring compatibility with mainstream computing environments.

The Deskstar 7K2000 offers an exceptional blend of capacity and power efficiency, with idle power savings over previous generation products up to 10%. On a watts per gigabyte basis, idle power has improved over 120%. Leveraging eighth-generation power management technology, including power-saving innovations like HiVERT technology, this drive delivers best-in-class power management and thermal emissions to help manufacturers meet energy compliance targets and extend drive life.

and before anyone else says it, deathstar, unreliable, failure, made by ibm, samsung better

that is all
2 for 1 can't be bad. Hot Deal I think.
Can't see 2 for 1 mentioned.
Voted cold only because of supplier and many previous issues with them. Hopefully someone decent will match :)
So are these drives any good? I know virtually nothing about HDD quality :S
Worst ever hard drive.A V O I D !
Worst ever hard drive.A V O I D !

first time below £80 I think. Had one and it died, but other people may have better experience. I dont hate them as much as maxtor drives,
hitachi used to be either owned or made by IBM (i think)

I have "mate" - got 2, had em for the last 18 months, running constantly in a server, not a single problem.

Go back to your Daily Mail!
I assume that you continue to think that Germans are bad people because of WWII as well?

Dont you just love people who slate a product based upon ancient history!
Buy yourself, mate, and you will see...

That is hardly an explanation as to why YOU think people should avoid them is it.
I think you'll find that these are the most RELIABLE drives ever nuff said.
I have to say that I've dealt with hundreds of harddrives over the last 18 years or so (back to when they were only 130MB Drives running on 33mhz Cyrix systems!!!) and I have to say the Hitachi drives are lightning fast and reliable these days! Yes the old IBM drives sold in the late 90's had some failure issues but not so much these days, failure rates are no different to other manufactures similar speed drives (forget about the slower green versions), but these Hitachi drives are usually cheaper than other manufactures!

2x 1TB drives are good if your looking to raid them together, if not just buy a single 2TB drive and save the power consumption.
Worst ever hard drive.A V O I D !
Best ever hard drive. B U Y IT !

Seriously, I've never had a problem with the 5 x 7K1000's in my RAID box in the 1.5yrs I've had them.
Luke Skywalker OWNS Deskstars. Blows them up for fun.
