I have 4 of these already. Should I go for another two to build some nice RAID?
Shame HDD will never beat SSD in performance.
Now new Intel SSD coming out begining of March which are meant to be about 500MB/s read.
Nice find though.

i'd love an ssd but really can't justify the cost/gb and know i'd regret it when they really start to drop in price.

I think I prefer the 2 x 2TB Samsung F4EG for £114 here from Scan.

Although these are only 5400rpm - but for data storage, better I think.

From what I've read so far Intel don't have the speed on their new drives and will be using a Marvell chipset and not their own, that could turn out to be rubbish though. The latest Sandforce chipset used in the OCZ Vertex 3 appears to be the one to beat, over 500MB/s read and write.

Does any other HDD beat these for performance?

Thinking of getting some for my i7 gaming rig/workstation

Voted hot but the 2x2TB they just did was a better deal.
#11
Great in Raid 0 if you Shortstop them... 220min , 260max Read performance (536gb drive)

Just had to return one of my drives; got a dreaded clunk clunk, noise on boot up ;-( ..
#12
Is this really 3Gb/s as stated in the title? Any read/write tests online?
#13
That's the speed of the SATA interface, nothing to do with what the drives can actually deliver...

You would only want the faster 6Gb/s SATA drives if they were SSD drives as only the faster ones of those need it.

I have just replaced 2 500gb in raid 0 for an ssd and to be honest in normal PC usage no real difference but much better in the following

boot speed
creating ISO from vob/sub files
adobe ilistrator tasks

not to sure if it was worth the cost

I find it's worth it.
I find the whole OS so much more responsive. When I want something done, it just does it - no more messing around.
Startup & Shutdown times are also awesome. Now if only companies would hurry up & release shorter BIOS boot times.

He trolled another Scan thread yesterday too. How hard is it to sign up for the free delivery ffs? Now you don't even have to post on AVforums AFIAK, just have to be signed up for 14 days!

Because this is a site for everyone, elderly people of just plenty of people in general are not going to sign up to other sites and wait two weeks. You have to include postage on HUKD, if not it's misleading, simple.

this is as random a site as avforums
as i said before the vast majority of people have been here longer than 14 days and so the option to take free delivery or not is open to them.
if they dont want free delivery thats their choice.
this is a site to get deals and save money, someone who is proactive will take steps to put themselevs in the best position to get a cheap deal, such as taking the vast undertaking of registering on another established site and waiting a few days.

if you want to make a big deal about stereotyping the elderly then why on earth would they even bother to order from one of those newfangled websiteys with computeryjobs? your arguement remains pathetic.

Doesn't guarantee you free delivery.....depends on where you live - I've been an active member of AV Forums for years and I can't get it.

So, get your facts right BEFORE making a total dick of yourself!
