Be aware that these may not be official, but grey imports. I got 2 last week and they are both non-UK market ones. not a big deal but it means that Scan deal with the warranty rather than Samsung themselves.
#4
If it's a Today Only at Scan on a Friday it'll last til about dinner time on Monday
#5
warranty issue isnt perfect, but as i have 16 of these drives now and only 10 full it aint gonna kill me if one fails, at this price almost worth having a couple of ones spare just in case you are using this amount of storage
#6
i got two last week, these are about £2 cheaper, very nice drives, silent unlike the samsung f1,s which tend to vibrate quite a bit.

Gone for two more :-)

Should be 667 GB platters ... 667GB per platter x 3 = 2TB

there is a bug with this drive and a firmware patch has been released on the samsunghdd.com website. Has anyone applied this firmware, and if so can you summarise the steps?
#13
I only want 1 * 2TB drive... not 2 :|
#14
Hot! Nearly bought two of them yesterday on today only for £125.

They've got a single 2TB Samsung HD204UI/Z4 for £61.19 delivered which is the cheapest I've seen it (on SCAN anyway).

I read on one of the forums that any drives that were manufactured after November 2010 would have the patch already applied - the two I got were manufactured in December so didn't need to be patched.

Free postage for AVforums members seems to only apply to UK mainland so Balls to that ... Strange though because I have had free p&p from them before. Must have changed delivery company.
#19
Daft question... Are these ok in a bare NAS enclosure? I need raided back up. I've lost too much data with knackered single drives : S
#20
Dammit I cant get the free delivery at the moment! not working for some reason, either that or I am dumb!

Anyone can recommend a decently fast drive for OS at least 300MB preferably 500MB that's not too noisy?

I would suggest you travel back in time to 1994

Good deal. I've been waiting for a twin pack deal to come up on this drive so the wallet is now £115.19 lighter.

Yeah, my first hard drive was 800mb. Paid £150 (I think) back in 1995. It's still in my Amiga. At £ per GB that's even more expensive than a SSD!

How did you manage that, I was going to buy a couple but they had lumped in some security software for another few quid that I didn't want. Couldn't see a way to opt out from it.

Which one is better: these SAMSUNG ones, or the WESTERN DIGITAL ones?

I guess I missed this. Unless you're suggesting to use one of these for the OS which of course can be done but will result in a dog slow os.

These drives keep on getting cheaper and cheaper :)

Missed this in the end, I decided as I have yet to fill my 1.8 jbod's that I can wait a bit longer before going to 4x2tb RAID 5 setup.
