First Seagate Bargain:

Seagate Barracuda 750GB SATA 8MB cache from Aria:

https://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/750GB+Seagate+Barracuda+SATA+8MB+?productId=28000

£50.47 inc. VAT - Great price if you live near to them like me.
£57.42 inc. VAT and Shipping - Not as great but still cheaper than many places.

Second Seagate Bargain:

Seagate Barracuda 750GB SATA II 16MB cache from Microdirect

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?ProductID=13972

£62.26 inc. VAT - Great price if you live near to them like me.
£XX.XX - No idea what shipping prices are

The 2nd drive is on Ebuyer for £122.12!!! - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/113436

Samsung Spinpoint Bargain:

1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 SATA2 7200RPM 32MB cache from Aria

£82.19 inc. VAT - Great price if you live near to them like me.
£89.14 inc. VAT and Shipping - Not as great but still cheaper than many places.

A definite bargain for local mancunians but also good/cheap enough for others too.

p.s. The main difference between both drives is the cache (8mb and 16mb). Nevertheless, the price is still cheap for the size and manufacturer. If you want better performance out of the 8mb, you can always use it in RAID.

Web only?

What you on about son? - i went in their last week and bought 22 packs of Ritek DVD-R's.

The store is not too far off Stockport Road.

What i think some are saying is that the "Super Specials" section are subject to a delivery charge - whether u pick up or not.

It'd be worth finding out how much they'll sell you these models over the counter....

Wouldn't go for the Seagate's as my current one runs so hot.

Definitely like Samsung though. Runs 10-15C cooler than my Seagate. Would be nice to have although I've already got plenty.

Just a heads up to anyone looking at the Samsung F1 1TB... after about 3 days of use mine died. There is supposudly a problem with the board on these drives. Personally I wouldn't touch another, i'd rather stick with Seagate seeing as i've never had a problem with them.

I'm not suprised at Samsungs ability to price these drives so aggressively, there must be some poor quality control going on :x

I am using the 1TB version in my NAS.

A good price.

Agreed the F1's are shocking, search on google... while some ppl are lucky and get a good drive that lasts and lasts, my 750gb F1 died after 48 hours also!

Whats annoying is that I lost 200gb of data in the process as I was moving data about to backup and it died whilst transferring... :-(

Hmm weird.

When reviewed in comparison to the barracudas (which i'll admit are great drives), the Samsungs came on top as better drives.

I have also read that buying the spinpoints is a case of hit and miss - some people are getting faulty drives and others are fine.

I've bought 2 x 750GBs and im about to do a firmware upgrade on both - just to make sure i dont run into any problems.

I bought both mine from Microdirect.com at just under £60 each.

I replaced my 2 x 250gb Barracudas with the 750GBs.

So right now my rig has:

1 x 75GB Western Digital Raptor - Operating System Drive
1 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda - Slave
2 x 750GB Samsung Spinpoints - Slaves

I can still fit 7 more drives!

Only thing i need to do know is get rid of my 2 x 250gb Seagates. Might sell em both for £40.

To do a FW upgrade on the Samsungs, i think you will have to go here -

http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?group=72&type=61&subtype=63&model_cd=248&dType=G&mType=SW&tab=down&ppmi=1155

Not done it yet.

I bought the Seagate a few weeks ago, it runs very hot and is very noisy.

Agreed, I got mine a little over a week ago and thought there was something wrong with it when I heard the shocking noise it makes when seeking.
I'd been scared off the F1's and decided to go with Seagate cause they have a fantastic rep but this drive is pretty annoying. I wish I'd stuck with WD who also had a 750GB on special for like £3 more.
#28
I bought a 1tb Samsung from Scan when they had a cheapish deal posted on here about a month ago. After a day i was getting CRC errors when burning then windows wouldn't even format it. Had to send back for a refund so am also now after a 750GB-1TB replacement, hopefully one of these posted today will fit the bill nicely.

Damnit !! :D
Ordered one from Microdirect then had an afterthought to check Quidco . . . Yup they're on there !

So if ordering through Microdirect do so through Quidco and get 3% (before VAT) back.

Don't know if anyone else has said this but note that these drives from Aria are OEM so come with only 1 year warrenty.

Anyone know if it is a 1year warranty or 3?
1 year from Aria.

3 years on one I bought from Scan. The trouble is I was in the process of backing everything up, so i've actually lost most of my stuff unless I can persuade Samsung to send out a working board for the HDD and see if I can get the data back. I've never had an issue like this so I didn't expect it to die just after i'd filled the thing up (had just formatted the old drives and copied 80gb back when it died).

If Samsung or Scan can't help then I will get a refund as I won't have any data to put on the drive if it's lost :-(

:x

While that's the case with CPUs I don't think it applies with Hard Drives. It doesn't apply with this 750GB Seagate (ST3750330AS) I got from Aria, registered it and it's in Warranty til June 2012 and with my other 2 250GB Western Digital drives they were OEM and both had a 3 year Manufacturers Warranty which I had to use once last year.

Good Price. Yes...! But i wouldn't touch ARIA with a barge pole. This company in my opinion are a bunch of cow boys.... and i'm speaking from experience. It was 3 emails, 5 phones calls and nearly 7 weeks before i got a refund on an item i returned. IF YOU DO BUY FROM THEM, YOU BETTER HOPE IT DOESN'T GO WRONG!
i know ALOT of people have had similar problems with them

don't take my word for it....

Absolutely right, I had a bit of trouble with them in the past but sometimes their prices are so cheap that it makes it kinda worth taking the risk.
Besides once you buy the hard drive you don't need to deal with them ever again as the 5 Year warranty is with Seagate and just in case I had any trouble I used a Credit Card with my last order as I'm told that offers some degree of protection if you spend over £100.

Would just like to add that the 1TB Samsung drive is at a price not too be missed (well not this month, will probably £50 somewhere next month :w00t: but thats the same with any pc peripheral) , as the price is around £10 - £15 dearer elsewhere!
I Only ordered late yesterday using google checkout and can see this morning that I have a tracking number with citylink and its on route and should be delivered today! To me this seems not bad? Alot seem to be mentioning of slow delivery times?

Also when it comes to the warranty if the manufacturer offers a 3 years but Aria only offer the 1 then you just contact Samsung for the warranty claim? I did this many years ago with a Maxtor drive, I'd had it for a long time, input details on the Maxtor website which gave you the warranty details and very quickly I received a replacment!

Will see how mine goes tonight when I get home ;-) ...
#37
Title very misleading.
#38
It's a decent deal, but mind out, that 7200.10 is an end-of-life drive. The .10 series was replaced at the end of last year, and is considerably faster than these. Although, even the new .11 series isn't as fast as the Samsung F1 drives, which I'd go for instead, on the grounds that they perform faster and quieter. And aren't made in China by the old Maxtor factories, staff fresh and joyful having had half of their mates fired through takeover downsizing, etc.
#39
Received my F1 today. Formatting it as we speak. Having heard all these horror stories....i think ill always have this anxiety of it dying and loosing all my data!
