20% Discount on British Gas Homecare

Whilst looking to renew my Homecare Policy recently I discovered several levels of pricing for Homecare. The cheeky feckers sent me a renewal which was actually more expensive that the non discounted website prices!! They phoned today and asked why I'd not renewed and I explained that I wasn't about the be bent over by them and that I intended to renew using the 20% off I had found online. I gave them the URL and they checked it was genuine before relenting and matching the deal. I put it quite simply, match and get my business or get nothing at all.

Anyway on to business -

I found this for a 10% discount (https://www.myhomecare-offer.co.uk/discone/index.aspx) and worked out that you could modify the URL to give a greater discount.

https://www.myhomecare-offer.co.uk/disctwo/index.aspx gives 15% and https://www.myhomecare-offer.co.uk/discthree/index.aspx gives the 20%.

Sadly https://www.myhomecare-offer.co.uk/discfour/index.aspx doesn't work.

You'll need to copy and paste

https://www.myhomecare-offer.co.uk/discthree/index.aspx

as the one I linked above doesn't seem to like being referred from here.

I'd love to know why people vote this so cold?

If you have a boiler breakdown then you'll be sat in the cold alright ;-)

Basic boiler & controls cover is £120 a year. this includes not only parts and labour but an annual service for your system.

A Which? Local survey carried out May 2008 found that the average UK price for an annual service on a six-year-old non-condensing wall-mounted gas boiler was £60.

Don't get me wrong I'm not selling, I'm covered, I'm just interested to know how an earth people can say it's cold.

Have a look at the prices here -

How did you manage to convince them to match -it says in the offeres that these are for New Customers.

They agreed to lower the renewal from £34 to £27, but not the additional 20% discount.

I asked them to do that for the timebeing, but that I would then consider whether I wanted to stay on (as it is a rollin monthly contract).

Any advice?

bg boiler care is rubbish they condemned my vaillant boiler and i had to cancel and call in vaillant who fixed it no problem. bg said i would have to send in a letter of complaint.

Stick with your boiler makers service/repair/insurance

I just told them in no uncertain terms, it's the 20% off or I walk. I explained that as an existing customer I wasn't prepared to pay more than an equivalent new customer.

The BG T & C's quote -

If we agree that your boiler is less than seven years old, we will provide a replacement boiler if it is not possible to repair it because, for example, spare parts are not available, or we decide that it would cost more to repair the boiler than to replace it with a suitable new boiler we have approved.

cold bg , condemned my boiler too. they are all lazy asses.ended up fixing it myself. needed new pcb and took about 15mins to change it. (b4 anyone says it, you can work on your own boiler as long as your not touching the main gas line)

I can think of a few reasons for cold votes

Search google for British gas powerflush...At least with a gas fitter/plumber they cant sting you for a few hundred in order to keep the policy on the good side of the T&C's :whistling:

Powerflush is an optional item though.

Not according to the T&C's

* All necessary PowerFlush work after your initial PowerFlush (which we charge you for). See the ‘PowerFlush’ section in this leaflet.

Dont say anywhere that its optional....also if its optional and you say you dont want it, Can you see BG coming back to repair your boiler for free if they said you needed a powerflush which you turned down?

Wouldnt be the first time i have heard this happening

You only need a power flush if they advise it, we've had cover for the last 2 years and never been advised to have it.

Are you now agreeing with me then that its not optional ??

What you said there is "you need one if they advise"......which is what they have been known for advising without the need for it to be done.

Just signed up cheers great price

Re powerflush. They tried to sting us for this within a month of us signing up for Homecare. I complained, they reluctantly agreed to do it (twice, according to my partner) and it did help, shame that I had to whinge to get it!
