Bear in mind if it doesn't say it's rated for Gb speeds then it probably isn't and the max you'll get out of these is 100mbps.
Not a problem for a lot of people, but if - for example - you're using these in tandem with 200mb powerline adaptors, you'll not get the 200mb.

If it's Cat5e then it will support Gigabit.

I can confirm that this cable does not get more than 100mbps. On a gigabit router with only 100mb connection.

200Mb on a Homeplug is the Duplex speed anyway isnt it ?, so you would only get a max 100Mb anyway.

Thats a good price for Cat5e...

I've just ordered some Cat6e for a very reasonable price of £4.45 on ebay, item number: 310254813405 <--search on ebay with that number to see
20M Gigabit CAT6e RJ45 Ethernet Network LAN Cable Lead

Would of posted link up for you all but the site wont let me.

I just figured if your going to be going to the trouble of re wiring some network in your house, for the sake of an extra couple of quid its best to future proof yourself and minimise any throughput loss with the cable.

You see one of the important factors when going to Cat6/Cat6e is the extra protection/insulation around the cable/wires which minimises interferance on them.
No point in spending 30 minutes doing a network install in your home only to be doing it all over again in 6 months when you want more speed or want better cable.

I currently have 20m of cat5e and i get a max 10MB over that cable which works out to around 100mbs which im not happy with on my NAS Drive so i'm going to upgrade the cable and im hoping to see at least 20MB sec. :)

Wouldn't touch Safekom. Here's why.

I bought a laptop stand / cooling fan from them on eBay. It arrived fine but stopped working after a couple of weeks. They sent me a replacement, it arrived broken. So they sent a third unit, it arrived broken too. I think they've either received a batch of damaged units from China, or they're not packaging them properly when shipping. Either way, at least they started off on the right foot by replacing. But then they started trying to seriously rip me off. Have a look..

I received the replacement today and ALL FOUR of the hinges are broken! This
is what must have happened - you must have received stock of these items
from China and the entire stock must have been dropped or suffered a fall or
otherwise got damaged. This is really not good enough!

Please send me an alternative model - I don't want any more of this model

stronger model then I will. But PLEASE no more of these damaged units!

Are you admitting that the extra 50p is pure profiteering and ripping me off? You sent the first item which broke after a short period of use - all subsequent replacements arrive damaged. You failed to properly check them prior to dispatch, despite this being a specific request of mine.

Being that on your website the model I bought is £4.41 (though you failed to provide me a unit that works), the model I want to replace it with is £5.23, I feel that the difference of £0.82 should be paid by you, not by me. I certainly do not agree with paying the £2.50 figure, nor the inflated £3.00 figure which you plucked from the air.

this will go more than 100mb its Cat5e. if your only getting 100mb then its likely to be your network card is only rated to 100mb.
100mb is more than ample for your home you will never use 10th of it on average. your adsl/cable connections will be the bottle neck.

I'd expect it to be replaced for free - the item only lasted two weeks. The problem is when they openly and arrogantly tried to rip me off, which was completely unjustified. My only assumption is that wanted me to share their loss due to their supply of faulty / damaged goods. They also began to get quite rude, as you can see.

Thanks for the input but my bottleneck is not my network card or router as i have a gigabit 1000mb card and a Virgin Gigabit super router.
My cable speed is 50MB but im not talking about my internet speed, i was talking about transfers from PC gigabit to NAS Drive on a gigabit router.
I do a lot of transfering 8GB+ HD movie files around from PC to NAS Drive and trust me i do use / need the speed. ;)

If you weren't confident in the build quality after the second broken unit, I would have just taken a full refund and looked elsewhere... instead you got into a protracted debate about 50p? It's a frankly bizarre exchange - sure your request was reasonable enough, but is it reasonable in the context of a company that is unable to send a working fan?

I think you've misread the email exchange.

After they sent me a second unit, which arrived faulty, I said I want another model and offered to pay the difference.

They ignored me and sent the same model again, which also arrived broken.

I then asked again for another model. The price difference, according to their website is 82p. However, on eBay they price differently and the difference is not 82p it's £2.50. But instead of asking for £2.50 they say they want £3.00. When I ask how come, they say "The difference is 2.50 GBP OK? So you need you pay 3.00 GBP. ..the 0.50p is not a big issue. ". What sense does that make?

It's pure arrogance.

Would this cable be suitable for connecting my Freesat HD box to a BT Hub 2 router for the purposes of using the built in iPlayer, or do I need better spec cable?
I did have it running on homeplug adapters, but they only lasted a short time, as they did get incredibly hot, so I think I'd rather go with a cable now.

Yeah, no doubt it's been frustrating to deal with them - I guess my attitude is you shouldn't bother trying with some people, especially when it's just going to get you incensed when they inevitably don't understand. Anyway, I'm sure the refund will go through!

For the record both my card and my router are full gigabit and other devices on the network reflect this. You can tell it is bad stuff as the cable can be squished flat with your fingers.

Yes, but only over short ranges.
#38
I've terminated Cat-5e cables that are >30m and they have supported 125mbits no problem what-so-ever so no reason why this shorter cable shouldn't be able to cope with it! (Spec even stipulates cable runs up to 100m should be fine)
You do however need to be a lot more careful with your routing of the cable, obviously Cat-5e is going to be far more susceptible to crosstalk that Cat-6.

Are you sure the bottleneck isn't the NAS? What model is it? If you've had higher speed using a different cable in the past then ignore this post, but you'll find just because the NAS has a gigabit connection, doesn't mean it can run at anything like gigabit speeds. The most expensive NASs (Synology / QNAP) transfer at around 35MB/s (280mbps). I remember I had an old Icybox NAS and the max transfer was 4MB/s (32mbps). Since then I upgraded to a WHS and that really does transfer at true gigabit speeds.
