If you go to National Tyres (www.nationaltyres.co.uk) you can get an oil filter change and fresh oil (Castrol Magnatec) for around the same prices.

for 10w 40 magnatec its £25.20 with free engine flush no oil filter. i paid £21.59 in halfords today for the oil. and national tyres is not that close to me either.

Just one thing to note... if your doing the oil change your self... check how much oil you need as 4L may not be just enough.... - hence why castrol's new range includes more 5l products..

What's the point in having an oil change without a new filter - or am I missing something?

Every car I've had, the oil need done every 5->6k miles, the filter double that. You can do the filter with every oil change but as I understand it you're wasting your time and money doing so (some engines are a bloody nightmare to get at their filters).

You should always change the filter when doing an oil change..

For the sake of a few quid for a filter its worth it... and 5 min's of a job!
