Halfords are offering a 20% discount if you trade-in your old SatNav for a new one, or old radio for a DAB radio

Seems a decent offer if you are in the market for a new SatNav and have an old one to trade-in.

For example, trade in an old SatNav and get £60 of the new TomTom Go 6100 - reduced from £299 to £239.

Full Ts&Cs from the site:
1. This offer runs from 01/06/15 - 02/08/15 inclusive.
2. The offer is available in any Halfords store and on click & collect orders via Halfords.com & Halfords.ie only. It is not available on home/work delivery orders.
3. The trade in discount value can be redeemed on any traffic sat navigation system or DAB car stereo, subject to stock availability.
4. Online, the discount will be applied once a valid product is added to the basket.
5. Subject to clause 7 below, there is no limit on redemptions per customer.
6. We can accept as trade in any used sat nav or car stereo.
7. We will only accept trade in sat nav or car stereos from customers who are dealing with us as a consumer and if we reasonably suspect that you are operating on a commercial basis we may, at our sole discretion, decline to trade with you.
8. Events may occur which render this promotion impossible to due reasons beyond our control, accordingly we may at any time and in our absolute discretion vary or amend this promotion in any way without notice.
9. Save as set out in these terms and conditions, Halfords normal terms of purchase apply.
10. Promoter: Halfords Limited, Icknield Street Drive, Washford West, Redditch, Worcestershire, B98 0DE (Company number 103161)

Possibly 3% Quidco too, reducing the satnav in the example above to a net £233.03.

voted cold for a couple of reasons. 1. as a motorcyclist I was interested in either the tomtom rider 400 or the Garmin Zumo 590. The trade in does not apply to the tomtom so COLD there and although it applies to the Garmin which is £550 the 20% trade in would bring the price down to £440 but you can buy the Garmin in most places on the net from reputable shops for £430 without a trade in. I agree for some it might work out but like I said for me its a cold but thanks for posting.

djlondon22: did you try their price match? The trade In is in addition to their price match as shown on the SatNav page they've price arched and still offer trade in. See http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_14552_productId_945392_langId_-1_categoryId_null too for price match details. Hope that helps.

thanks for that, i think in the past though they won't let you combine "offers" ie, price match and a trade in but i will try,

No other promotional offers or vouchers can be used on top of a price match

As others have said, Halford are convenient if you need it today but if you can wait until tomorrow you can make much bigger savings by shopping online.

Has anyone tried this? Do you actually need an old sat nav to trade in or would they sell it at the reduced price anyway?

Yes I tried it, the staff knew nothing about it despite the sign up in store. They just typed in a 20% discount, didn't even bother scanning their discount bar code. I asked what condition the px had to be in (leads/box/working?) they didn't know. I got the impression that they probably could have given the discount anyway. I went for the Tom Tom at £119 which has now dropped to £90 at Currys anyway. No loss to me it is for business use, my employer is paying.

Careful, it says 20% off a DAB stereo, so would seem to be not off all car stereos.

Is it necessary to have a DAB aerial, or will DAB likely be picked up with a regular FM aerial?

Thanks for this OP. Just ordered one. Oh and for a_user you will need a dab aerial. You can get windscreen mounted ones which are fairly discrete. Most units receive fm signal too through your existing aerial.

As craiginuk said, as a general rule you do need a DAB aerial to pick up a signal. A lot of head units I have seen come with one in the box, otherwise they are only a few quid on eBay for a windscreen mounted one, from what I have been told these suffer from interference if you have a heated screen though.

That's funny - cos after trying to use my phone as a sat nav I'd never go back to thinking a phone can do the job as well.

Well....surely the clue is very much in a description. It says "trade-in" - which means you need something to "trade" "in". I'm afraid they don't accept magic beans, but they did take my beloved Navman - manager didn't even look at it. So I can confirm - as their terms and conditions do, they will take "any" old sat nav for the 20% off. The only downer about this offer for me is that they've craftily (and temporarily of course) removed ALL their discounts on sat navs, so you can't double up on savings. But 20% is still a good amount. I got a Garmin nuvi 57 for £87 - label price was £109.99. So I'm happy.

....which is of course why you spent all that time shopping around and checking prices. As it's no skin of your nose.

Useful comment, you sound like a really nice person. Thanks for your input. I use HUKD a lot and noticed that something I had just bought was listed so thought I would join in. I won't bother in future if people like you reside here.

Can I take in my old AA road map as that is what I used for nav before!

If you reserve online before 1st July it looks like you can also get another £10 off a £100 satnav and £20 off a £200 one.
