It's a lower than normal resolution for a 20", usually they're 1600x1200 or 1680x1050.

While I can understand some people wanting 16:9 screens at 1280x720/1920x1080 I can't see the point of it here since being a cheap monitor the scaler is likely to be poor and most devices that are limited to just that single aspect ratio in the first place aren't going to scale to this resolution.

Nah, I don't think it's got anything to do with 16:9 content at all. I think it's just the widescreen alternative to 1400 × 1050, i.e. a cheaper option than the normal resolution 20" screens.

i prefer 16:10, but there are a hell of lot more 16:9 screens out there now, inc the 15.6" laptops, more manufacturers making these now
