Who doesn't know the story?

If you don't though:

A four-million-year-old black monolith is discovered on the moon, and the government sends a team of scientists on a fact-finding mission while hiding the truth from the public. Later, another team is sent to Jupiter in a ship controlled by the perfect HAL 9000 computer to further investigate the giant object--but something goes terribly wrong. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is a masterpiece of filmmaking. Director and coscreenwriter (with Arthur C. Clarke) Stanley Kubrick has created a visual and aural spectacle that stands as one of the greatest achievements ever put on celluloid. The film begins with the "Dawn of Man" segment, about the evolution of apes, and then ventures into the future, taking a look at what the world might be like in the first year of the 21st century. Kubrick's film is a triumph of technological storytelling, a marvel of stunning sets and a brilliant soundtrack with the power to overwhelm and mystify. Long dialogue-free scenes sparkle with indelible images and powerful orchestral music, culminating in an unforgettable, inscrutable tale of birth and rebirth, human evolution and artificial intelligence, the past and the future.

I remember going to the cinema to see this - hot

Incredible picture and sound considering the age of the film. It would stand up against today's releases on Blu Ray.

Same here , I won't bother with the BR disc because of that transfer .

I preferred the sequel where the computer judged Bowman and the rest of the crew by their outward appearance, without considering their inward strength and intellect.
#12
awesome , might be time to pass on my laserdisc copy :3

I was pretty amazed how good the Blue Ray version of this film is. Dolby Digital sound to.

A great sci fi film.

Just shows how good the film source was compared to the awful quality of some 1980's movies.

If you want to see this 2001 movie in a real cinema in 70mm for £6.50 or less (and also 2010 in 70mm) you can at the National Media Museum up in Bradford later this month - 6.30pm on Saturday 27th (& 9.10pm for 2010) - see http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/biff/10/film_detail.asp?filmid=873
part of their annual 'Widescreen Weekend' celebration.

See I think it IS the point... this site is about DEALS, and £9.99 is NOT a deal, it's just how much that film is at the moment. This place gets flooded with these type of non-deals, a shame as the proper deals and bargains are harder to spot because of this.

I can't let you do that, Dave.

It used to be for 6.95, so for that reason cold from me.

classic film. just got it - thanks

As you can tell from my Avatar, I've always been a big fan of this film, which was so well made for it's time (OK, it also had a big budget for it's time as well), and even now, over 40 years on, it's visuals and soundtrack are stunning. This is just the sort of film that Blu Ray was made for, which at £9.99 is money well spent.

Thanks for posting

So it's £6.95 now, great where can I get it? Ah wait you mean it was cheaper in the past? So let's say for example that some one finds petrol at 90p per litre today at a garage and posts that as a deal because petrol is currently around £1.10 or more, I should vote that deal cold because petrol was 44p per litre when I started driving? Please don't you post any deals because time machines haven't been invented yet. Brains have though and you seem to be lacking a few cells.

This is my favourite film of all time and this seems a very decent price. Glad to hear it's excellent on Blu Ray.

Strange then Jonmurgie that three of your active deals on Blu Ray at HMV currently are all 1 pence more than their Amazon counterparts (excluding quidco), not really deals huh, just how much the films are at the moment, so I think if that's your statement that this place gets flooded with these type of non-deals, start with YOURSELF

I admit, I confused the film with Bladerunner. I got this one for the same price. Comparison of BR prices to petrol prices is really not in place here.

No need to offend me though.
