Disaster movie maker Roland Emmerich, whose other hit films include Independence Day and The Day after Tomorrow, has once again struck cinematic gold with his latest breathtaking action-adventure movie 2012.

Drawing on the Mayan prophecy that the world will end on 21st December 2012, Emmerich takes us on a visual journey of gargantuan proportions. The planet is being attacked, but this time it isn't aliens threatening the existence of the human race, its solar flares heating up the earth's core.

Whilst camping with his kids in Yellowstone, failed author Jackson Curtis (John Cussack) comes across a secret military operation. Woody Harrelson, a nutty conspiracy theory radio presenter tells him that the end of the world is nigh and that the government know it. True enough, top scientist Adrian (Ejiofor) is working for the government on a top secret project which will ensure that a selected proportion of the population will survive the impending natural catastrophes.

Jackson attempts to save his children and ex-wife but by the time he reaches them in LA, the chaos has begun - Yellowstone has turned into a supervolcano, whole cities have been destroyed and colossal tsunamis cause devastation across the globe. With time running out, is there anywhere they can escape to?

Film has great sound and good visuals on BD. As a film though it's a fairly average disaster movie.

Looks like I stand alone - I enjoyed it. I'm not sure what people look for in a film these days? It entertained without requiring much thought and sometimes that's a good thing.

a good storyline and well thought out script usually helps , a film which produces good visual effects but little else is usually found lacking by most viewers - yourself excluded mind.

I think the film was given a fair bit of hype prior to release too which possibly lead to high expectations and when it failed to live up to those expectations one is left feeling rather dissappointed i suppose.
If you watch this expecting it to be a load of pants then you may enjoy it a little more and actually want to keep it on to the end even !

I agree with the 'not requiring much thought' bit but thats down to the fact that the film is extremely shallow and theres nothing there to think about...

Watched this on Saturday, afraid to say it bored the **** out of us.
Shame really as the idea behind it was good.

Watched it yesterday. Two and a half hours of my life that I'll never get back!

loved the day after tomorrow, quite believeable, good script, actors etc. shame to say this film was nothing of the sort! very unbelieveable, rubbish story and effects. I paid £2.50 to hire it and feel robbed!:x
