What is a LED monitor?
The term “LED monitor” generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In a LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used as the light source. Environmentally friendly LED backlights provide the following benefits:

About 40% less power consumption compared to traditional CCFL monitor
10,000,000:1 MEGA Contrast Ratio
Environmentally friendly mercury-free backlight
Low EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference)
Slimmer design
Weight reduction

Why do these these LED monitors have a lower brightness than a lamp back-lit monitor? :|

It's the only thing putting me off a monitor such as this.

I thought it was something to do with the technology, lower standard brightness but they pick up brightness wherever it's meant to be more fluidly.

Moooorish
Imho, its worth spending a little more and getting something like this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-V2400-Eco-backlight-widescreen/dp/B002Q5TC6K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282685378&sr=8-2

Expect to pay 250ish for a really good 24" monitor. I wouldn't recommend the half-hearted versions like this deal.

Not sure I agree with you there, a 22" may suit yourself but others don't always need a larger screen, what is wrong with this monitor? There will be plenty of people where this deal suits their budget and the £60 more one you suggested certainly won't. The BenQ G2222HDL LED monitor can be had for around £130, which is a more suitable alternative I would have thought (admittedly 21.5")>

Don't forget people work to a budget, this monitor will fall in to many people's budgets. Many people will just want a basic monitor that provides a decent image. The BenQ I suggested certainly does, and this LG most likely does as well. At the end of the day it's about this deal and what it provides and not paying significantly more. I could have suggested the BenQ G2420HDBL but it's 24" and £166 for example. Anyway just my opinion not starting a war :)
