There's a couple of unfavourable reviews out of 3 at Amazon.

Personally, i'd go for the Kingston 2gb at £13.13 which is almost half the price.

The Kingston is not a U3 Smartdrive though, the Sandisk one is, which explains the price difference.

Oh, I see.

Is that worth double the price of the Kinsgston though when all you want to use it for is storage?

I have one of these and find it excellent. The Amazon "unfavourable reviews" are for the old version - the new one is smaller, not sure about faster. I have to say, it is a nice fast drive and the bet USB drive I've owned. The U3 is a bit take it or leave it - I do a fair amount of portable data recovery and I`ve managed to nicely package the apps I use into executable format from the drive - it works nicely.

I like the fact that it's metal and much sturdier. Also, as the usb plug is retractable there is not cap to lose.

If it's just storage you want and nothing else, I'd go the the cheaper drive.
#9
Yes, but the unfavourable reviews on Amazon don't mention U3 and are still for the Scandisk Cruzer Titanium but just without U3.

Does that sound right?

I'm looking to get a new USB pen drive so i'm quite interested in all this.
#10
If you look at the Amazon one and look at the Play one you'll see that the actual USB stick is different - the amazon one (old U3 titanium) is long and thin whereas the current (new) U3 titanium is the size of the Cruzer micro. I haven't had any problems with the case splitting or unreliable USB connection.

The U3 bit won't work with the Mac but the actual drive itself can easily be turned into a standard USB drive with some software from Sandisk free from the website.

Like I said I think it's swisher overall and for me I`m happy to pay £10 extra for that (and I think the speed is better?). But it probably won't give you a huge amount extra for the money in terms of features, and not everyone like the U3 bit.

Thanks very much for the comments.

I'm just about to get a pen drive but am a bit confused now which one to get. The thing is, both Kingston and Sandisk are two of the best brands, so the Kingston at half the price is edging it at the moment.

I've had my current 1gb generic pen drive for a couple of years now and it still works fine, so i'm not really too bothered about titanium stuff. I just need the storage.
#12
Then go for the Kingston and console your self with the fact that by the time you need more storage you'll be able to get the Sandisk with the money you saved!

:)
#13
Or I could just get 2 Kingstons for pretty much the same price.
#14
Anyone know of any vouchers for Play? I am very tempted to snap up one of these.
#15
There are none, Quidco!

I have had the Kingstons for the last two that I have had 1GB and 2GB. I broke the cap and Kingston sent me one FOC. If I hadn't have bought the Kingstons I would have bought a Corsair.

These one's are very compact though, but I like the idea of a cap to keep out the pocket fluff ;-)

Yeah, the Corsair looks a good rugged well reviewed suggestion and is only £17.03 at Scan.

I'm going to order one...:)

I ordered one from My Memory over a month ago and still haven't received it :x

Wish I had waited now. £10 cheaper and know I'd get it in a couple of days.

I am also loving the 10 year warranty on the corsair (SanDisk is 5 and the Kingston too.) I still don't know which one to get though...

On my U3 I have

ROBOFORM2GO (Password manager)
FIREFOX (Webbrowser)
THUNDERBIRD (Gmail setup)
ACDSEE (Nice for Pictures)
WINAMP (Nice for music)
FILEZILLA ( ftp client)
PUTTY (SSH TELENT nice for Linux guys)
Trillian (Messanger supports MSN chat)

And if you want to be really smart Learn how the roll your own U3 packages.
All they really are is example zipfiles renamed but with xml and folder structure for stand alone programs.
With this said you could use Joomla a stand alone webserver/mysql ect..
And have your own USB server... I have done it with POP/SMTP too.
