Looks like this is going to be a promotion that happening shortly - i've seen another site having first seasons listed at the same price, but they removed them because they were completely sure on the details.

Number of disc = 1

Must be amazing new fangled compression to get the whole series on a single disc.

More than likely, yes. ALthough like I say, there was another site (cant remember who now), who listed it, but weren't sure on the exact details so removed it from the site.

The prices are really too much of a stretch to believe they're correct though, the HMV listing @ £44.99 is way too much now, the box sets on offer seem to be first seasons of shows which have been around the £10-15 mark for a good while.

Did you mean Streets Online, It's £7.99 there on preorder (from 6th June) with free postage

Since streetsonline.co.uk are owned/run by woolworths it's not surprising they have the same offers but unlike woolworths streetsonline give free postage.

I don't understand why this is preorder..? Its been out for ages. Great season though, best one I think.

I haven't seen any of this series and would like to watch it after hearing great reviews, although not at £40, what is the difference between this and the £7.99 link? does anyone know?
Is it like the PS2 Platinum range when products are reduced as they have made their money?

24 is awesome, but does have that watch-once-remember-forever quality (as with all mysteries, once you know what happens, it makes it far less watchable).

If you haven't watched it, then buy this.

Alternatively, in 2014 the "24 Anthology" will be released with all ~10 (by then) seasons on it for a mere £200, and we'll be posting "£100 at Play" posts here... In 2019 24 will return with someone else as the hero, for another 4 seasons that just never matched up to the originals.

I'm not sure whether to take a gamble and order this, really confusing considering both W and Streets have the same thing (apparently) for a much higher price. I dont want to end up with some one disc 24 best bits disc or anything!! Whats everyone else doing, to buy - or not to buy!?

£40 is way over the top for 24 season 1, normal price is about £18 so £7.99 just sounds like a good deal.
Just remember it isn't released on this offer until 06/06/07

#14
is this likely to actually be 24 season 1? if it is im defo getting it
#15
24 is fantastic and the first season is probably the best one. It is addictive though and once you start watching it...
#16
chances are this item will be delayed for ages, similar situation with the smoking room boxset woolworths. None the less worth the wait at this bargin price.
#17
£17.89 at SendIt.com

If you really want it I would get it from there instead of waiting til mid-june for something that might be the same.
#18
great price, if it's the same boxset on sale everywhere else. I'll probably put an order in too. People have said that 24 is watch-once TV, which I would agree to a degree, but eventually you forget all the little details and while you know the ending, it's still fun to watch how it gets there.
#19
Might be M-lock packaging, which means its cheaper to buy but same DVDs inside.
#20
The offer was on BlahDVD (which has since been removed), it come under a 'Try me TV' search, so i'm guessing that's the name of the promotion. Not 100% sure on whether it's the full season, but it'd make sense.

As said, the boxsets on offer aren't that expensive now anyway (£10-15), so getting people hooked with first seasons and them then having to pay £20+ for the next one's is pretty good business sense.
#21
i bought the vhs box set at a carboot sale for £3.00 last christmas , to see what all the fuss was about , by easter my wife and i had watched all the 5 series out on dvd , I think you would struggle to watch on tv as its very easy to miss important twists and turns vital to the plot , its a totally addictive and brilliantly written tv series so buy now !
#22
I would totally disagree that this is a one watch series. I have watched it two-and-a-half times. Watching it a second time with someone who hasn't seen it before is just as refreshing as the first time. Knowing how the story develops also reveals extra subtleties that you might miss first time round. This season has much more structure, subtlety and themes than the later series, they became too action packed and superficial (although still great).
#23
just to let folks know - this is NOT the full first series this is as play.com says "This collection features a sampler of what awaits in season 1!". I would suggest people cancel their orders.
#24
Nice one nicky, glad you noticed this! When I just logged in and checked my account the name had indeed changed to "Try Me TV: 24 Season 1" - grrr!

When this was posted it was just labelled as "24 season 1". Cancelled now anyway.
#25
thats ok thought would be useful for people as I almost ordered one myself - £7.99 for a sampler is far to expensive though.
#26
Thanks Nicky, Cancelled my order - I'm not spending £7.99 on a sampler
#27
The fact it's a sampler is a blow to say the least!

Myself and Hubby bought Series 1 last summer, and watched on average 1-2 episodes a week - brilliant series. Well worth watching. It is a commitment though!
#28
It didn't say it was a sampler when we ordered.
They only added the "Try me" after we placed our orders!!
