First post!

Satellite Dish
For use with digital satellite receiver
Offset angle: 25°
With 40mm LNB holder
Price per item
was £14.99
*compared to last year

Bought one a few months ago for 14.99, easy to assemble, quality is not superb, but does the job, can't complain (doesn't affect picture quality).
Works fine with 28.2E, 19.2E, 13E.

you can indeed

Do you need to use a decoder box or similar at the other end? Sounds too easy if you can just buy this and then get the foreign broadcasts of the Premier League etc.

any tips on how I might do this. ie will my old sky digibox be of any use ?:whistling:

You'll need an LNB for the dish, some RG6 cable from the LNB to the house & receiver.
You'll need a receiver inside the house (SKY BOX will not do - you will only pick up the free channels on SKY box).
Something like a Technomate TM1500 or similar, with a softcam patch and some codes.

This is NOT an easy job, and requires further investigation on other dedicated forums.
Suggest you try googling for european satellite forums for more help.....

....in my opinion this is far too complex a topic to discuss here .... and probably a bit too dodgy too....

yeh will this be any good? (slightly sceptical at the price/quality!) i was told by a mate that i would want a motorised satellite and i assume this isn't one!

What's wrong with only picking up the free channels? That's a over a hundred more than the five I got on analogue - you don't have to go down any expensive or 'dodgy' route to get a decent selection of channels!!!
(Admittedly no CH4 or 5 at present - but I get those on analogue until they unbundle from Sky or Digital switchover in 2011 )
I'm fairly sure you would be able to get a Sky box with a freesat from sky card to work with this type of setup.

Best off with at least a 90cm dish to pick up the footy.......

If you're wanting to dump sky and watch football for free on satellite you will need a motorised dish to get the best choice of channels. edit:Chris is right you'll be better off with a bigger dish for the footy.
If like me you can't get freeview and want a cheap selection of channels (like film4 etc.) then one of the <£50 bundle deals from Lidl is great value. Channels on my lidl setup look as good as my neighbours Sky (SD).

Go motorised - it's not much harder to set-up & you get a LOT more channels.

Have a look on Ebay for a Technomate 1500CI+ Super receiver with a 90cm dish & motor. You can get the FULL kit for £230

cheers for all the advice guys! i think a motorised one will be best. besides, seeing it move around would look pretty cool! :p now i know what i'll be doing after the x'mas madness!

p.s.: a bigger dish? are we overcompensating for something? I was told an 80 cm was big enough! :w00t::whistling:;-)

Trust me - that extra 10cm will get you a load more channels (the 90cm one's are actually just under 90cm in order not to violate the council laws so you dont need planning permission).

Mines on a scaffold pole at the end of the garden.......I get EVERY premier league match, inc sat 3pm kickoff's, as many NEW films as I can watch & the best of all........free hardcore p0rn lol - all for nothing more than the set-up costs (£230).

If you want me to send you the link on where to buy from, just send me a pm

I've checked a few stores (my local one plus one in Sheffield and Liverpool) and
all three only seem to have fireworks (groan :x) and knickers on offer for Dec 27.

Which stores are you guys looking at?

is that the shed u use to watch your pr0n? *titters like a schoolgirl*

cheers for the idea! may have to get some pro to put ours up on the roof! or at the very least the sides!
#19
I got a few quotes when I 1st got mine - they wanted £400 !!

So I spent a few days researching & done it myself. Glad I did now as I have a much better understanding of it, it is easy to do & a few times the weather has blown the dish offline, and I;ve sorted it out myself.

Now that would be a trip out to watch, a pro on your roof:w00t:

i set mine up really quite easy, i have a 1.2m dish hummy 5400 hdci2000 (high def) and a sl35. i now want a 2.4m dish but the other half will not let me until we have moved

lol we wouldn't have to hack for free pr0n now would we! :p yeh i thought of doing it by myself but my mate (typeR'chicken' up above!) wouldn't agree to be winched up on my roof! :whistling:
#23
too right u aint gettin me on a roof :p If it aint a flat roof then no chance for me to get on it :p

and 80cm is more than enough to get eutelsat in a decent area and can pick up 19.2 astra for premiere and 13E hotbird for nova obviously bigger is better....... but the difference betwen them is pretty much negligible if at a great price ;)
#24
The free unencrypted stuffs ok but if you point it to that other satellite Eurobird or Speedbird I think theres a more European choice - if you like east european strippers at breakfast that is...
#25
mmmmmmmm........... breakfast

Oww i got one of these in Greece from Greek Lidi for my greek house back in July...

can say that it did its job well and seemed an ok build quality for the price..

but as chris said you really need the 90cm or even 1 meter dish if you really want to go for it, but if you want the uk astra free to air channels or the German / France on the other astra sat or hotbird than its a great price..

Just to note though, anything 90cm+ will need planning permission. If you buy a 90cm dish though, it's normally something like 89.9cm to combat this ;)
#29
how much space would I need to clear to get the best signal reception? i.e.: will trees affect reception? keep all brick walls at least 10m away?
