"ZipSters" are in some Waitrose over central London during the weekend .
They are joining people to zipcar for £25 instead of £50.
This annual fee will be kept for life (!) .
On top of that they are giving £35 worth of driving credit (!).

I joined last Saturday in Waitrose Paddington/Bayswater.
The guy told me that this coming weekend they will be in Marylebone High Street.
All you need to do is to show up with your driving license and fill the form online with as much info as you can.
They will put in a special code and that's it.
You will receive a email withing 1 minute telling you to email a scan of your passport, utility bill and sign a declaration.
the following day I received the approval and I rent my car from my iphone within 10 minutes.
Spent 17£ but still 13£ on my credit, so it's all true !!

I hope the guy was right saying they will be in Marylebone highstreet (he was a bit funny saying he couldn't really reveal that...) but anyway keep your eyes open !!!!!

I'm so curious to know who (and why) is ppl voting cold...

seriously guys GET A GRIP !!
;-)
I don't win a prize if it gets hot and I don't live my life to be a 5stars hot uk deal member, I just think that if it goes in the "HOT" section someone else will be happy to save some money...don't you think?

;-)

Looks interesting.

Thanks for sharing!

Had a quick look at site.
Looks like a good deal, if you stay in Central London.
But if I did, I would use public transport anyway.
#4
Hot, if I lived in London I'd definitely be interested for shopping trips
#5
Hot, streetcar is 60 per year with no included usage. Both co's have cards within 2 minutes of my house so will try to get to Marylebone on the weekend.

Really good find OP.

Fantastic deals, cheers for taking the time to post this. I just hope its still running when I get back from the Easter weekend!
#8
Really good find, but only really useful if you need to get a big shop or are going somewhere obscure!

I'm not from London but would like to sign up for Zipcar. Can you get a code off them or do you have to sign up under their noses? I would be very grateful if someone could procure a code!

Great idea but nearest cars are a car drive away!
#11
They have an app on apple's app store that lets you lock/unlock the car and sound the horn!

http://www.zipcar.com/iphone/

looks interesting for that alone!

Why are people voting cold??? Perhaps because it's very specific, and they don't think it's much of a deal?

Also....your comment about people needing to " get a grip " and vote your deal Hot will alienate many.... Not too many folk on HUKD like being told how and why they should do something...least of all when it's an OP bigging up their post!;-)

^^ the OP posted that when it was minus 8, clearly its not now, and 8 million people live in London so hardly specific

I think this is a great deal. I live in central London and am already a member of 2 car clubs including Zipcar. If you're travelling with another person it can work out cheaper than paying for public transport and it's great for shopping, transporting large items, or when you need to travel around lots of different places, especially if they're not well connected by public transport.

In fact, it's worth it just for being able to hire vans by the hour - at any day and time - for collecting large items etc.

The other car club I use is Connect By Hertz - tbh I prefer it to Zipcar as it's generally cheaper for small cars/short journeys. They often have a free first year offer, so it's worth checking them out too. However, Zipcar has more vehicles and more different types of vehicle.

Verify your identity and address, hardly surprising they would want to seeing as they will be lending you a car.

Thing is, from experience, I know how daunting it is here.

You post up what is an amazing deal and for some unknown reason it ALWAYS goes really cold initially. Go have a look at the "new".

Most people there are sad gits who sit there going "yes, no, yes, no" simply based on whether it's a good deal to them.

My opinion is that if you can get it cheaper, then vote it cold. If you have absolutely no interest or don't know whether it's a good deal then don't vote. Otherwise vote hot.

wait, so yuo pay 25/year or 25 is for a lifetime membership?

if the latter, works better than my current streetcar - i was an early joiner, they took a 150 deposit which i can get back at any time if i cancel my membership, but i have zero annual fees. if its 25 at zipcar, i can get rid of streetcar, have a 25 quid for life zipcar option which works when i travel the US too, with more car model options. and i don't mind losing 25 quid, as i'm currently 150 out of pocket as long as i'm with streetcar!

It's £50 per year, discounted to £25 per year. As long as you don't cancel the service you will continue paying £25 each year, instead of £50.

thanks :) guess makes sense i stick to streetcar then. i bought my own car a few months ago but keeping the membership anyway, yuo never know when i need an extra car / van for moving purposes. it's not like the 150 quid would earn me much interest right now anyway ;)

How much would StreetCar charge you for say a 4 hour trip with one of their mini-vans?

mpv's / streetvans run 7-9 quid an hour. so yes, renting would be cheaper in many cases. although convenience of renting over weekends when i need it most is ideal - rental cars you typically rent all weekend or find locations with after hour drop offs.

heat from me

nearest Zipcar is too far away from where i live in London. Im better off taking public transport. Shame D:
If its 2 minutes walk, or even 10 minutes, i would heavily consider it.
#25
Wonder if they will let an existing member do this... it always seems unfair that new members get the great offers like this and existing members get nothing for there loyalty
#26
Anyone managed to get this today?
