Hot from me :)

is this the one where you have to have at least 1 child with you to make them valid for travel?
#4
just looked it up..

To use your Family & Friends Railcard, your group must contain at least one named cardholder and at least one child aged between 5 and 15 years. The maximum group size is up to four adults (aged 16 years and over) including the named cardholder(s), and four children (aged 5-15 years). Don’t forget children under five travel free and each adult may take up to two “under fives” with them.

If the only child in the Family & Friends Railcard group is aged less than five years of age, the Railcard holder must purchase a discounted ticket for that child in order for the accompanying adult(s) to qualify for the discount on their tickets.

good if you've got kids though

What discounts does the family rail card allow you ?
#6
thanks for this was thinking about getting one.

Nice one Keli ours runs out this month :)

It gets you 1/3 of adult fares and 60% of kids fares. Sometimes you only have to use it once for it to pay for itself. Good deal.

could you get one of these and book tickets via the web and collect at station even if your not a family ?

Yes, as long as there's at least one child travelling with you (they don't have to be related).

good deal thanks

I bought one a these a few years ago and it was good value for a family to travel.

Also chuffed that we were being "green" and letting the train take the strain.

I bought one again last year on the same priciple but disocvered that the fare increases now made it a really expensive way to travel - even with the discounts, (so I was green in another sense!)

check that you will make savings before leaping in!

Nice one! Pur-chased!
#15
Thanks. Bought one.

This card is really good, even if your kids are under 5. We generally find that even when you pay for a child it works out cheaper than buying just an adult ticket.

voted cold. those travelling without a gaggle of noisy children shouldn't be penalised

I often find there are more noisy nmobile phones and people shouting into them, on trains than there are kids!
